Position Purpose:

Complete on-the-job and classroom training as part of a 7000-hour formal apprentice program in order to manufacture quality, cost effective, precision machined parts, in a timely manner for internal and external customers.

Nature and Scope:

The 7000-hour apprentice program will consist of rotations into a different area of metal removal for on-the-job training. These include: The Automatic CNC Single Spindle area, the Automatic Multiple Spindle area, the Swiss Area, mill cell, and manual machining. The last year of the program will be completed in the department that the trainee will work in after completion of the program. The trainee will be required to complete and pass proficiency tests in each area. Each trainee will work under the direction of the department supervisor, Team Leader and an assigned trainer in each area. The trainee will also rotate shifts during the training program and may spend time on all 3 shifts.

Formal classroom training is also part of the apprentice program. There are 4 sections of classroom training requirements that must be successfully completed during the apprentice program. In order to progress and complete the apprentice program, the first section of formal classroom training must be successfully completed within the first year of training, the second section within the second year of training, the third section within the third year of training and the fourth section before completion of the 7000-hour program.

After successful completion of the formalized apprentice program, the trainee will be assigned to a machinist 2.

YOU MUST HAVE

High School Diploma/GED

Requirements and Accountabilities:

1) The trainee must become proficient in each of the following to successfully complete the program:
Stocking machines
Inspecting parts
Cleaning out machines
Replenishing fluids
Changing cams
Changing collets
Changing pushers
Removing setups
Preparing setups
Changing gears
Operating DNC system
Making minor adjustments/major adjustments
Setting, centering, and changing tooling
Working with special attachments
Doing routine troubleshooting

Note: This list of on-the-job training may not be all inclusive. Other training/tasks of similar complexity may be added as the trainee progresses through the program.

2) The trainee must also successfully complete the following classroom training in order to complete the apprentice program:

Term of Apprenticeship:
Terms of the apprenticeship shall be as specified in the outline of work experience/classroom requirements for the trade. The term shall not be completed until work experience, Training checklists, floor performance testing and classroom related instruction requirements are met. At any time, an individual fails to meet all of the above criteria, they will be subject to removal of the apprenticeship program.
In addition, the employee must meet performance standards of: Productivity, Contribution and Participation, Behavior/Attitude, Quality, Safety and 5s.
