Center Director Job Description

Ladybug Crossing Childcare Center Director is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and coordinating the services of one of our childcare center locations. This position acts under the direction of the Executive Director. It requires a person to be able to exercise judgment and decision making as delegated by the ED. This includes policies, procedures, staff supervision, classroom management, enrollment and customer relations.

The Center Director must be knowledgeable of State of Nebraska Childcare Licensing requirements and be able to keep themselves and all staff accountable to all regulations as outlined by the State of Nebraska, Health Department, Fire Marshall and Child and Adult Food Program. This position must also represent the center in a way that coincides with the positive reputation that Ladybug Crossing has established in the community. They will oversee all operations of the center and report on them in a weekly meeting with the ED.

This position is required to be half time in the classroom teaching mornings and half time office.

Responsibilities:

Culture

  • Support an environment of learning amongst staff and children in our care.
  • Develop and nurture compassionate, caring relationships with staff, parents and students.

General

  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory agencies. Contact and report all incidences that may be out of compliance with these agencies.
  • Handle all issues directly related to the administration of the program
  • Maintain all records related to the administration of the building.
  • Adhere to all company policies and enforce them with staff and families
  • Utilize time management to plan and schedule time to complete all administrative responsibilities
  • Develop building schedules maintaining compliance with program ratio guidelines
  • Scheduling and monitoring responsibilities of the teaching staff.
  • Other job duties as delegated and defined by the ED
  • Be the on site contact person for licensing, health department, fire marshall and CACFP

Record Keeping

  • Maintaining digital and hard copy files for each student in care. Required documentation will be tracked annually to ensure all items are updated timely.
  • Maintains staff files with all required documentation. Staff files will be reviewed on their anniversary date to obtain updated paperwork for all staff
  • Track and document required staff inservice hours.
  • Prepare and order groceries based on a prepared menu and list.
  • Submit purchase requests to ED for items that have not been previously approved
  • Collecting tuition which will be stored in the bank bag in the ED office in a locked drawer. Issuing receipts for tuition paid as requested.
  • Documenting training and onboarding of all new staff assigned to the center.

Facility Care and Maintenance

  • Overseeing, planning, implementing the layout of classrooms based on ECERS, ITERS guidelines.
  • Delegating and oversight of all facility cleanliness including indoor/outdoor.
  • Reporting all maintenance issues to the proper person
  • Management and inventory of all supplies.
  • Ensure all cleaning lists are being completed and contain valid, current duties
  • Keep center presentable and always organized. The center should always be tour ready.
  • Plan and conduct state mandated fire/tornado drills.
  • Coordinate and delegate building decorations to be updated semi monthly (hallway bulletin boards, lobby, sitting area)
  • Strive to maintain the utmost cleanliness and sanitation
  • Develop sanitation plans to combat infectious diseases throughout the center and hold staff accountable

Staff Related

  • Recruit, train, supervise and retain high quality staff
  • Identify open positions based on needs of the facility
  • Sit in on interviews with the ED and assist with making hiring determinations.
  • Conduct structured staff meetings consistently
  • Assist new staff with compliance of the their training and onboarding program
  • Assist staff with developing and implementing age appropriate learning experiences in their classrooms.
  • Planning and implementing staff appreciation activities.
  • Handle staff disciplinary issues one on one using the proper documentation.
  • Keep and maintain all personnel records
  • Be the source of a team mentality and keep staff focused on the “why” of their position
  • Establish boundaries as the direct supervisor, while still maintaining respect for individuals.

Child Related

  • Enrollment responsibilities (maintaining knowledge of center openings, waitlist length, and abilities of staff)
  • Touring prospective parents
  • Communicating with parents in a respectful way in a variety of ways (phone, digital. Email)
  • Contacting parents in the event of an illness or emergency
  • Onboarding parents, making sure they have all the information needed to start on their first day.
  • Maintaining positive community relations to promote enrollment
  • Maintaining the learning environments of all students with the assistance of the lead teachers. (ensure curriculum is being implemented, pyramid model is being used appropriately, classroom management/setup adheres to company policy)

Community Relationships

  • Participate in 2 community leadership activities annually
  • Be aware of additional services and programs that may be of assistance to our families to be able to make referrals
  • Be an example for the program even when off the clock.
  • Foster and cultivate partnerships with other childcare providers and community agencies.

Food Program

  • Utilize the menu cycles. Both centers should be serving the same meals daily.
  • Supervision of food related staff. Kitchen Manager and Food Program specialist.
  • Maintain a proper supply of food and drinks to meet the needs of the center while eliminating waste.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood related field
  • Associates Degree or CDA with three years childcare and/or management experience
  • Five Years Experience in childcare center
  • Ability to pass all required background checks.
  • Ability to obtain Director classification from the State of Nebraska DHHS licensing department.
  • Documented experience in customer service
  • Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children
  • Ability to lead and manage effectively
  • Ability to adapt to the various learning styles of adult learners
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently without a direct supervisor present at all times.
  • Ability to take direction and criticism
  • Must have a knowledge of technology and computer skills
