Central Garden & Pet Company’s, Nylabone - Pet Segment located in Neptune City, NJ and Monroe, NJ is searching for a Chief Engineer. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Chief Engineer will lead the Engineering department to directly identify and execute capital projects. Key to success in this role will be technical depth, project and capital excellence, and a drive for scale and cost savings is imperative. The individual leads and develops a high performing team of technical engineers as well as project management to drive successful implementation of projects such as ground up constructions and asset lifecycle projects. The Chief Engineer will implement new processes or improve existing processes as needed to support and control continued performance of the completed project.

- Harness the potential of internal and external resources to lead the development and execution of the company’s long-term capital plan.
- Contribute to the design, construction, and maintenance needs of all new investments while applying their cost-centric, reasonable, and practical knowledge to provide technical solutions to new opportunities.
- Develop and nurture collaborative relationships with internal partners to create and gain coalescence behind a robust and actionable technology strategy and road map.
- Accountable for all engineering aspects of projects as well as ensuring associated documentation complies with CGP, local, state, and federal standards and guidelines related to EHS, Quality, and Regulatory including factory acceptance tests and validation protocols.
- Review and analyze plant process capacity data and identify bottlenecks. Develop year-over-year site plan in partnership with the COO.
- Identifies, recommends, and implements new technologies and systems to improve organizational processes and decision-making.
- Evaluate and establish tools and hardware for success.
- Leverage analytical tools, business data, and financial information to improve the total performance of the Supply Chain and to forecast plant capabilities for growth opportunities.
- Oversee the engineering department to coordinate projects and follow through with execution.
IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical) or Engineering Technology.
- At least 5 years in project management/engineering with production management experience.
- CPG or Food/Beverage industry experience is strongly preferred.
- Must have superior budgeting and cost management abilities, assessing estimated costs early in the project and bringing the actual costs in line.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and analytical skills with the ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven experience managing multi-site projects.
- Experience in operating and influencing at a strategic level.
- Proven experience using AutoCAD and/or CAM software; SolidWorks and/or Pro-E preferred.
