JCCA’s Preventive Services division is seeking a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) in the Family Treatment and Rehabilitation (FTR) Program. FTR is a program that provides supportive services for families with a caregiver or child with substance abuse or mental health issues. The CASAC will provide substance use/abuse assessments, make treatment recommendations and offer direct therapeutic support to clients in an effort to help stabilize children and families.

JCCA’s Preventive Services stabilize and strengthen families in crisis. Staff support families in resolving immediate problems and keeping children safely at home. Programs offer assessment, crisis intervention, and treatment in a variety of models to best assist families at critical points. Our professional staff work with families who may be struggling with family conflict, substance abuse, domestic violence, mental illness, behavior problems, truancy, parental stress and children who are at risk of abuse and neglect. We use a family approach to empower and strengthen families to prevent out-of-home placement and to reunite families after such placements. JCCA Preventive Services are conveniently located in Brooklyn and the Bronx. Services are family-centered, strength-based and culturally-sensitive in their design to defuse potential conflicts, reduce the incidence of violence and promote the well-being of children and families.

Essential Functions:

• Conduct office, home, and field visits to assess clients and establish treatment goals as per their needs and in compliance with regulations of OCFS and NYC Administration for Children’s Services.
• Provide initial substance abuse evaluations and ongoing assessments; make recommendations for types of treatment needed based on assessment
• Provide readiness counseling for treatment and supportive counseling during relapse
• Make referrals to treatment services and monitor child/family attendance of services
• Provides consultation to case planners/supervisors regarding families who struggle with substance abuse
• Conduct trainings on substance abuse, diagnosis, and treatment for Preventive team
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community substance abuse providers to assure a pool of resources for clients
• Maintain records of all client/family/collateral contacts according to the regulations of OCFS and NYC Administration for Children’s Services.
• Attend interdisciplinary clinical case conferences and staff meetings according to program procedures.
• Attend inter-agency meetings (including client-specific meetings at schools, hospitals, ACS, etc.).
• Represent Preventive Services at community functions.
• Participate in FTCs or other family conferences as needed
• Flexible hours, including evenings, as may be required
• Participate in planning and implementation of client group activities, etc.

Qualifications Required:

• Must be a fully Credentialed Alcohol Abuse Counselor (CASAC)
• BA/BS/BSW, with a minimum of two years working with at-risk children and families
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work closely in a team-approach and contribute to program development
• Experience providing substance abuse assessments to adults and adolescents

Qualifications Preferred:

• Fluency in Spanish preferred.
• Knowledge of child welfare system
• Knowledge of child development and individual and family functioning.
• Skills in working with hard to reach or resistant individuals and families.
• Skills in collaborating with other disciplines and services.
• Knowledge of DSM V

Salary - $50K - $55K
