EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
PART-TIME BUS DRIVER

The City is seeking a trustworthy, responsible individual who, under general supervision, will transport children to and from schools and recreational activities sponsored by the City of Eustis Parks and Recreation Department. Employee picks up children at predetermined locations. This is a part time position, amount of hours will vary from 10 to 15 per week.

EXAMPLES OF MACHINES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED – Drive and operate a 29 passenger and a 45 passenger bus to transport children.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Transport children from schools to after school recreational locations;
  • Pick up and drop off children at designated locations;
  • Drive children to field trips, sporting events, and other activities;
  • Before stopping, operate stop sign and flashing lights on bus to alert traffic;
  • Check the bus tires, lights, and oil and do other basic maintenance;
  • Follow a planned route on a time schedule;
  • Work with onboard staff to ensure children stay in their seat at all times;
  • Follow traffic laws and state and federal transit regulations;
  • Follow safety procedures to make sure passengers are safe;
  • Listen to alerts about bad weather;
  • Carefully navigate roads and watch for debris, wet or slippery road conditions;
  • Report accidents immediately;
  • Call police during an emergency.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS –

  • Knowledge, ability, and skill to operate safely a 29 passenger bus and a 45 passenger bus on a daily basis;
  • Ability to work with minimal driving instructions, adhere to all driving laws and the ability to read, write, and navigate to different locations;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills –
Ability to work with the general public of all ages tactfully and effectively; ability to maintain records and reports; ability to work independently; ability to maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and the public; ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, some weekends and holidays approximately 10 to 15 hours per week, depending on programming schedule.

Working Hours – Monday through Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (After School Fun-Zone Program); Additional flexibility beyond these hours is preferred; Occasional availability for weekday evenings and weekends is also preferred to support a variety of Recreation Programs.

Physical Demands – This is continual light work. Requires frequent driving for long periods of time; lifting 50+ pounds and carrying/pushing/pulling 50+ pounds; good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination; good eyesight, hearing and speech; working in adverse environmental conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.) for long periods of time.

Minimum Qualifications – Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a Florida “C” CDL with passenger bus endorsement and have an acceptable driving record. Must pass a background check and required drug & alcohol screening. Must specify hours available at time of application. Only candidates that meet the licensing and hours requirements will be considered. Previous bus driving experience preferred.

Salary Range – $15.06 per hour. Only applicants with the most job-related qualifications will be selected for interview and further consideration. Additional consideration may be given to applicants with more extensive education, training, or experience. Final candidates may be required to pass a drug test and are offered a conditional offer of employment contingent upon satisfactory results of a thorough background check including criminal history, driver’s license check, & medical exam.
