Duties and Responsibilities
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide complex technical and professional budget and financial support, analysis, and reporting.
  • Ensures compliance with university and government rules and regulations
  • Prepares and reconciles various budget, fiscal and management reports
  • Research, compile, and analyze budget data
  • Assist in preparing quarterly forecasting data and analysis
  • Prepare budget forecasts and trend analysis as needed
  • Assist in the annual and biennial budget preparation process including entering personal service and operating budget information into both the Axiom and Banner accounting systems
  • Assist in the development of the campus budget training process and provide training as
    needed
  • Assist in updating budgeting training material
  • Assists campus departments with preparing budget adjustment forms and general budgeting
    questions
  • Assist in creating and submitting budget adjustments in Axiom
  • Provide complex technical and professional financial accounting support, analysis, and
    reporting as needed
  • Assists the Budget Analyst IV position as needed
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Education Required:
Bachelor’s Degree, from an accredited college or university, in accounting, finance or related
area with a minimum of 2 years of full-time progressive accounting, and financial experience or
equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.

Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, in accounting, finance or related area with a minimum of three years of full-time progressive accounting and financial
    experience or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Knowledge of and experience with generally accepted accounting practices and procedures
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and trends and forecast budgetary revenues and
    expenses
  • Experience researching, compiling, and analyzing financial information for data accuracy and
    completeness and generating reports to management for decision-making purposes
  • Knowledge of and experience using computerized accounting systems and database
    applications
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including creating complex spreadsheets and pivot
    tables
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Ability to perform complex accounting, budgeting, and system reconciliations
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Education Preferred:
CPA or master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business

Experience Preferred:
  • Experience with Banner Software System and/or other State Accounting Software Systems
  • Knowledge of higher education and/or fund accounting
  • Thorough understanding of university and/or government laws, regulations, policies,
    and procedures

The Successful Candidate Will

  • Knowledge of and experience with generally accepted accounting principles, budgeting theory, and other accounting practices and procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of higher education and/or fund accounting
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and trends
  • Ability to forecast budgetary revenues and expenses and provide data to management for
    decision making purposes
  • Knowledge of and experience using computerized accounting systems and database
    applications i.e. Banner, Axiom, and APEX
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including creating complex spreadsheets and pivot
    tables
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Competence researching, compiling, and analyzing financial information for data accuracy,
    completeness and generating reports.
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills, exercise good judgement, and take initiative
  • Ability to perform complex accounting, budgeting and system reconciliations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Ability to research governmental rules and regulations
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
  • High degree of accuracy
  • Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements

This is an office position requiring sitting at a desk, viewing computer screens, occasional lifting
