BREAKING NEWS REPORTER (EVERETT, WA)

Full Time
Everett, WA

Job description

The Daily Herald is seeking a reporter to cover breaking news, courts and other public safety stories in Snohomish County. If you're a newshound eager to do meaningful journalism on a fascinating and dynamic beat, we want you here.

This is the crime desk, and you'll report on plenty of breaking stories, but we do not want you churning out clickbait. This is a position for someone who can also sift through the noise to unearth powerful stories that resonate here and beyond.

As a general rule, this newspaper values depth above quantity. No quotas. Editors trust reporters to give each story the time it deserves. You'll work alongside about a dozen reporters who will go out of their way to help you succeed. Our staff is encouraged to share bylines and bounce ideas off of one another. We believe just about anything can be looked at from a public safety angle, but you'll be more than welcome to follow your passions and write outside of your beat.

We're looking for a clear writer with strong storytelling skills. If you've worked much with alternative story forms, that's a big plus. You should also be comfortable taking photos and videos.

Daily newspaper experience is preferred for this position, but entry-level reporters may apply, too.

The Daily Herald, with the website HeraldNet.com, has been the leading news and information source in Snohomish County, Washington, for more than a century. We are in Everett, a vibrant and growing community 30 miles north of Seattle, framed by breathtaking views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains to the west and the Cascade Range to the east.

The position is full-time.

Please email an introductory letter and a resume to careers@ soundpublishing.comand include "Everett reporter" in the subject line.

We offer benefits, including medical/vision/dental/life, short and long-term insurance, 401k with an employer match and paid time off.

Produce local news content for digital and print formats.

Must be adept at social media and new media platforms.

Must follow all company policies and procedures, including COVID-19 safety practices.

Must have a working cell phone and reliable transportation.

Minimum Qualifications:
