General Information
The Division of Student Affairs at James Madison University (JMU) welcomes applications for a cohort hire. Modeled after similar searches in Academic Affairs and as a part of the ongoing DEI work at JMU. This hire will consist of four student-facing positions who are all working collaboratively within their home departments on the shared Divisional value of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Positions hired in this cohort will be housed within the Center for Multicultural Student Services, Residence Life, and the Office of Disability Services. You will have the opportunity to apply for a single position within the cohort or apply for multiple roles.

The Division of Student Affairs includes University Career Center, Center for Multicultural Student Services, Community Service-Learning, Counseling Center, Dean of Students, Disability Services, Student Accountability & Restorative Practices, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity & Expression, Orientation, Residence Life, Student Life, University Health Center, University Recreation and University Unions. The division is an integral part of the campus community and works collaboratively with the other divisions of the university in supporting the mission, vision, and values of the university. Qualifications
Successful candidates will possess the ability to meet the functional needs of the home department and engage in DEI work holistically to help JMU become an institution where every student has the opportunity to thrive. JMU prioritizes the staff experience and is also engaging in this innovative hiring practice for student affairs in order to emphasize communal experience. Through this process, you will be collectively onboarded to maximize learning and build a community devoted to staff development and DEI work at JMU.
Required:
  • Bachelors required
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience supervising of staff, supervision of full-time staff is preferred
  • Experience in complex decision-making
  • A record of commitment to inclusiveness
  • Commitment to holistic education
  • Commitment to student development and development of student-learning environments
  • A record of collaboration across functional work areas
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders
  • Be current on research and trends in Higher Education
  • Experience developing rapport in one-on-one relationships
Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or relevant field
  • 5 years of relevant experience

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
