About Us

Sullivan Estate Law is a well-established, boutique firm that specializes in estate planning, elder law and estate administration. We have a staff that has been with the firm for a number of years and that works extremely well together. Our office is located in a renovated Victorian home close to the harbor. We offer a collegial environment in a firm that believes in work/life balance.

This is a new position in our firm and does not include litigation. We have experienced tremendous growth and are looking for an associate to add to our team. This position can be either full-time or part-time.

About You

You have 2+ years’ experience practicing law and have an interest in estate planning and elder law. You are empathetic, compassionate, and exhibit patience in dealing with older clients. You have excellent attention to detail as well as superb verbal and written communication skills. You work well independently as well as part of a team and look forward to being mentored by senior attorneys. You are searching for a long-term position and not just a job.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

• Probate Court appearances and settlement of estates involving probate and bypassing probate.
• Preparation of RI and US estate tax returns.
• Real estate sale closings – familiarity with the closing process, drafting sales agreements. We don’t represent buyers. These transactions are often associated with selling real estate while we are involved with administering the decedent’s estate.
• Draft estate plan documents using WealthCounsel and ElderCounsel and Clio
• Initial estate plan meetings and follow up thereafter through signing and funding.
• Fiduciary accounting familiarity.
• Participate with attorneys Donna Madden & Jim Sullivan to learn more sophisticated tax and Medicaid planning.
• Assistance with Trust funding and coordination of financial assets with the estate plan.

Experience & Qualifications

• 2+ years of law firm experience preferred
• Licensed to practice law in Rhode Island
• Tech savvy
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of WealthCounsel, ElderCounsel and Clio is highly desirable
• Highly organized
• Strong attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Empathetic and compassionate
