Job Description:

The person in this position will lead manufacturing related activities across multiple programs simultaneously. They will directly interface with Quality Engineers, Production Planners, Material Management, Design Engineers, Customers, as well as supporting Production. Responsibilities will include reviewing drawings, generating work instructions, dispositioning hardware, conducting table top reviews, supporting manufacturing readiness reviews, trouble-shooting issues on the production floor alongside Technicians and Test Engineers, perform root cause corrective actions for any issues that arise during manufacturing, and teaching best practices for cable assembly.

The role is within the Surveillance Solutions (SS) business unit of the Electronic Warfare (EW) sector, which resides in the Space & Airborne Systems (SAS) segment of L3Harris. As such, the ability to apply/qualify for a Secret Security Clearance is necessary. The Van Nuys location provides technologies for situational awareness in land, sea, and air domains. These product platforms deliver identification, analysis, and precision approach telemetry for the areas of interest. Through active radar technologies and passive detection solutions, the integrated solutions of this business unit allow for complete EW battlespace control.

Essential Functions:

  • Interfacing with design engineers and supporting build strategies to ensure manufacturability.
  • Investigating root causes, generating analyses of findings, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Submitting engineering change requests/orders (ECR/ECO).
  • Recommending engineering documentation updates such as notation additions or alterations, callouts, tolerance adjustments, changes to critical parameters or features, etc.
  • Planning and coordinating personnel, equipment, process resources, etc.
  • Generating assembly documentation such as work instructions or other manufacturing aides.
  • Directing support personnel in the day-to-day execution of the manufacturing tasks.
  • Writing technical briefs and acquiring images, or other data, as supporting documentation.
  • Assisting with manufacturing efforts through formal cost estimates, scheduling, action item delegation, and customer engagements.
  • Supporting process improvement initiatives of a technical and operational nature.
  • Designing and developing manufacturing and engineering tools, strategies and systems.
  • Leading modification activities for electronic and mechanical systems.
  • Supporting procurement in alternate component selections and alternate sourcing.
  • Providing guidance, insights, and analyses to Quality Engineers.
  • Identifying reliability issues both proactively, and through discovery, and issuing corrective action requests accordingly.
  • Building business cases for new or additional equipment (i.e. capital expenditures) and tooling, as well as for process changes impacting new or existing product lines.
  • Proposing risk countermeasures and mitigation techniques.
  • Tracking and reporting key performance indicators (KPI).
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics/diagrams.
  • Intellectually contribute to the profitability of the Spare and Aftermarket channels through ideation and innovation.
  • Understanding of document and configuration controls such as product data management (PDM) and product lifecycle management (PLM).
  • Understanding of phase-gate or stage-gate structures for product/project development processes (PDP).

Qualifications:

  • Requires broad theoretical job knowledge. Bachelor’s Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of hands-on experience with sensitive electronics, electrical assemblies, cables, and electromechanical components.
  • Led or supervised others in a cross-functional organization or worked throughout the Operations departments with delegation authority.
  • Generated proposals for labor, tooling, and equipment with basis of estimates.
  • Analyzed data, prepared charts, and presented findings.
  • Submitted corrective actions, non-conformances, and design/engineering changes.
  • Demonstrated ability to find root cause of manufacturing problems, workmanship defects, mechanical test failures, etc.
  • Engaged with Quality Assurance and Procurement in inspecting and sourcing parts.
  • Wrote technical documents and work instructions.
  • Identified and implemented risk countermeasures or mitigation techniques.
  • Has excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Generated, or heavily contributed to, test plans, acceptance plans, inspection plans.
  • Willingness for intermittent travel (locally, Van Nuys airport & Santa Clarita).
  • Critical thinking skills – an ability to listen, understand or research further when necessary, evaluate the data, and derive conclusions or actions based upon objectivity, quantifiable metrics, and fairness.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge of MIL/IPC workmanship and performance standards (e.g. IPC-620, IPC-610, NASA 8739.4, MIL-STD 883, MIL-PERF 38534)
  • Background in the manufacturing of electronics and systems for high reliability, military/defense, and government systems.
  • Experience in developing processes, procedures, protocols, flow maps, etc.
  • Strong understanding of electromechanical devices (compressors, fans, pumps, valves, etc.), their applications, and system integrations.
  • Testing of prototypes, engineering units, first-of-a-kind products, subassemblies, line replaceable units (LRUs), etc.
  • Experience with voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) or other similar metrics, oscilloscopes, anechoic chambers, and other signal testing equipment.
  • Understanding of antennas, radar, electromagnetics, radio transmitters & receivers, electromagnetic interference (EMI), waveguides, etc.
  • Ability to read welding callouts and inspect welding joints.
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • History of quantifiable outcomes from solutions for design/process failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA).
  • Material expertise or understanding of galling, deformation, corrosion, dissimilar metals interfacing, etc.
  • Measurement and verification (M&V) audits.
  • Lean manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification.
  • Generating or updating structured/indented bills of material (BOM)
  • Machinist experience (punch/turret, CNC tools, sheet metal forming, etc.)
  • Previous experience with computer aided design (CAD), finite element analysis (FEA), computation fluid dynamics (CFD), stress analysis, thermal analysis, or other intricate simulations.

In compliance with California's Fair Pay Act, the salary range for this role in California is $61,500 - $113,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
