Assistant Professor in Technology & Engineering Education
Job description
Anticipated start date is August 1, 2023.
- Design and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in technology and engineering education, career and technical education, and teacher education,
- Mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels,
- Supervise students participating in offsite clinical and student teaching activities,
- Implement high-impact instructional strategies and contemporary teaching and learning theories in Technology & Engineering Education and/or Career & Technical Education,
- Contribute substantially to focused efforts on student recruitment to the undergraduate Technology and Engineering Education program and graduate programs,
- Assist in supporting the Technology and Engineering Education Collegiate Association student organization,
- Develop a sustainable research program that provides opportunities for external funding and complements or expands existing departmental research within the areas of technology and engineering education, STEM education,
- and/or technological and engineering literacy, as well as engage in interdisciplinary research within the department,
- Collaborate effectively with teachers and administrators in the K-12 setting, the Utah State Board of Education, and other stakeholders in Technology & Engineering Education,
- Be involved in professional associations related to Technology & Engineering Education (e.g., the International Technology & Engineering Educators Association, etc.), and
- Participate in committee assignments in the department, college, and university.
- Earned Ph.D. in a degree program closely related to Technology and Engineering Education (completed by August 1, 2023)
- Candidates who are ABD are also encouraged to apply and may be hired at the Instructor level until their degree is conferred (completed by June 30, 2024).
- Evidence of excellence in teaching in K-12 schools or at the post-secondary level for a minimum of 3 years
- Knowledge of educational standards pertaining to Technology & Engineering Education, including the Standards for Technological and Engineering Literacy: Defining the Role of Technology and Engineering in STEM Education (STEL)
- Evidence of potential for effectiveness in research and ability to secure extramural funding
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching experience at the post-secondary level
- Teaching experience in technology and engineering education content areas (e.g., engineering systems; graphic communications technology; etc.)
- Experience with educational technology, online instruction, and various teaching methods
- Experience with student organizations
- Experience with conducting and publishing research in technology and engineering education, STEM education, and/or technological and engineering literacy
- Success in obtaining funding to support sustainable scholarly efforts.
