Job description
Under supervision of the Center Director, in collaboration with the assigned lead teacher and classroom teachers, coordinate classroom program for children and parents in one classroom for children 2 months to 5 years old, assuming responsibility for classroom. Maintain program quality, adhering to Title 22 State licensing regulations, Title 5 Exemplary Program Standards, and NAEYC Accreditation standards. Complete children's assessments using Desired Results Developmental Progress (DRDP) and other online assessment tools. Maintain a healthy indoor and outdoor environment. Work cooperatively with parents and with supervisory staff to coordinate child care program. Act quickly and appropriately in hazardous situations, providing first aid in emergencies.

Required/Preferred

Ability to coordinate the program for one group of children and their parents.

Required

Ability to relate to children ages two months-five years as required for supervision of indoor and outdoor activities, toileting, meals, snacks and nap time.

Required

Knowledge of child development theory and best practices in early childhood group care and education.

Required

Ability to speak English to be understood by young children and adults.

Required

Ability to read English text of children's stories and as needed for general information and food preparation.

Required

Ability to write English for preparing written reports, including parent conferences and child observations.

Required

Ability to plan and implement set-up and supervision of activities and preparation of food.

Required

Ability to use kitchen utensils and appliances safely and appropriately for preparation of snacks.

Can be trained

Ability to act quickly and appropriately in hazardous situations to prevent accidents and to provide first aid in emergency situations.

Required

Ability to direct classroom staff in overall program.

Required

Ability to train support staff through role modeling and verbal explanation.

Required

Ability to work cooperatively with other staff in total child care program.

Required

Skill in resolving problems in the face of conflict with children and adults.

Physical ability to lift and carry children and objects up to 40 pounds when necessary (frequent lifting).

Continued employment contingent upon holding the Child Development Master Teacher-level (or above) permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Required

Bachelor's degree.

Preferred

Possess adult and pediatric CPR and first aid certifications.

Required

Minimum three years' experience in a preschool or infant classroom.

Required

Infant/toddler teachers must have completed at least three units of study in Infant Development.

Required

Ability to use computer, including Outlook, Word, Excel and internet to create reports, parent conferences, send emails, and use DRDP and other assessment tools.
