Job description
- Plan, implement, and evaluate a variety of aquatic programs and activities for the interest of school and community use, including swim lessons, Masters, lap/open swim, swim team rentals, high school swim teams, PE classes and more.
- Schedule all use of the swimming pool; school, community, and private.
- Market the aquatic community programs in cooperation with the City of Monona and Village of Cottage Grove recreation departments.
- Communicate aquatic information to the community, including schedules, fees, programs, etc.
- Organize an accounting and reporting system in respect to fees, attendance, enrollment, etc.
- Schedule instructional use of the swimming pool and participate in co-teaching of swimming instruction with the physical education teachers.
- Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate all aquatics staff as well as monthly in-service trainings.
- Keep all staff certifications and state/public health paperwork current.
- Develop annual budget in area of responsibility and maintain the annual budget in a responsible manner.
- Work with the maintenance department to ensure safe and healthy conditions in the swimming pool area. Maintain compliance with state regulations and staff certification standards.
- Setup and on-site supervision for school District sponsored swim meets.
- Teach American Red Cross CPR classes to staff, coaches, and occasional students (8-10 classes/year).
- Teach ARC Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard classes to the community.
- Teach ARC WSI and Lifeguard Class to High School Physical Education.
- Working any shifts not covered for lifeguarding and swim instructor.
- Order all pool supplies and chemicals.
- Other duties as required.
- A degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field preferred.
- Knowledge and experience coordinating swimming pool activities including lessons, aquatics programs, lifeguard training and instruction required.
- Certified in ARC-WSI, Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor, First Aid, CPR and AED
- CPO/AFO required within 6 months of hire
- ARC WSI T required within 1 year of hire.
- Ability to work cooperatively with employees, other agencies, and the public.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills required.
