Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder Office of Information Technology (OIT) encourages applications for an Agile Project Manager! The Project Manager works with the Director of Portfolio, Process and Service Management and will provide project management, agile coaching, and scrum lead responsibilities that empower a development team to deliver data as a product to campus.
The Agile Project Manager will facilitate the development and implementation of a well-established agile team by: coordinating and scheduling team meetings, facilitating all agile ceremonies, managing team Jira boards, and fostering an agile team environment. The position will primarily focus on empowering an integrated team of data engineers and developers in partnership with OIT Data Services and the Office of Data Analytics (ODA) Analytics Engineering units. This position may also serve as an agile coach for other OIT and ODA teams as needed.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Agile (Scrum) Leadership
  • Conduct all Scrum meetings including but not limited to: daily standups, backlog refinement/grooming/planning meetings, demos, retrospectives.
  • Generate team consensus for sprint execution.
  • Help the team make progress on the tasks by ensuring each person is working on the right tasks, helping to remove any obstacles to the team members’ progress, and protecting the team from distractions.
  • Perform continuous management of the product backlog in coordination with the Product Owner.
  • Manage product boards via the Atlassian Jira tool; hold team members accountable for work through use of the Jira board.
  • Actively communicate and coordinate team needs, progress, and barriers with other ODA teams, managers, and leadership.
  • Act as a mentor to team members on Scrum principles and standard processes.
  • Develop an agile development environment by coaching team members and partners on the agile/scrum process and standard methodologies.
  • Champion and promote Agile principles, values and scrum practices within teams and with partners.
  • Promote a continuous improvement mentality within the development team and leads.
  • Identify and manage critical dependencies and risks to ensure the timely deployment.
  • Supervise key project landmarks and recommend adjustments to complete projects on time and ensure high quality results.
  • Use and adapt templates, workflows, and processes to support the needs of the team.
Project Management
  • Review project plans to ensure tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Whenever uncontrollable events impact existing schedules, report to the ODA management as soon as possible.
  • Maintain current project projected release / deployment / implementation dates based on progress to date and best available resource and task estimates.
  • Assist with any changes, ensuring they go through the defined organizational change process before requirements are added or dropped during the project.
  • Facilitate communication involving the service, support, and operations teams involved with projects.
  • Deliver timely and accurate project status updates and reports.
  • Coordinate with procurement personnel and outside contractors to ensure equipment is ordered and received per project documentation.
  • Assist with identifying, tracking, and managing project risks, issues and roadblocks.
  • Project Liaison for the ODA team within the wider OIT and CU Boulder organizations.

What You Should Know

  • This position is in a hybrid work situation, with the majority of work being performed remotely. This position may infrequently be expected to come on-site for project management or other unforeseen circumstances, so living within commuting distance is preferred.
  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to comply with the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement. New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.

  • Salary: $75,100 - $80,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field. A combination of education and proven experience as described below may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • 1 year of experience with the following:
    • Project management experience that includes a combination of the following: Managing multiple concurrent projects. Risk management and issues resolution.
    • Agile experience, with familiarity of both Scrum and Kanban.
