This position was located within the Department of Public Safety (DPS) but transferred to the Department of Adult Correction (DAC) on January 1, 2023.

Reporting to the Administrative Assistant I, this position is responsible for providing maintaining and overseeing the Offender Trust Fund and processing activities related to the Cashless Canteen and Welfare Accounting. Job responsibilities include; but are not limited to, the following:

Maintaining accounting records or separate accounts receivable/payable.

• Handling fiscal and financial operations of the respective work unit and involvement in the budget process.
• Analyzing data for accuracy.
• Solving problems.
• Interpreting policy and procedure.
• Reconciling data and ensuring overall accuracy.
• Coordinating and/or making recommendations for procedural changes as needed.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The established working hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5:00pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.

The salary grade for this position is NC05. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About the NC Department of Adult Correction (DAC):
DAC is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance and Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs and Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation and Reentry.

About Pender Correctional Institution:
Pender Correctional Institution is located in Burgaw, North Carolina and houses up to 768 male offenders in a medium custody facility.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Associate degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution
Or
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of experience in accounting work
Or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $31,200.00 - $54,101.00 per year
