SUMMARY

The

2nd Shift Supervisor is responsible for providing the leadership, guidance, and support to the members of the production Value Stream and Warehouse, with the objective of achieving department goals while meeting or exceeding customer expectations. As this position is “hands on” in a fast-paced, physically demanding production environment, this individual will support the Value stream by building respect for the team members and putting their improvement ideas to work in a timely manner, while being willing and able to work alongside employees daily.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute supervisory responsibilities to include, but not limited to: planning, assigning, and directing work; administering and complying with Company policies and procedures; managing attendance and approving time records in a timely manner for processing payroll; interviewing, onboarding, and training employees; managing performance, writing and conducting appraisals, and administering corrective action; and proactively responding to employee concerns to ensure high morale and maximum employee satisfaction.
  • Facilitate, promote, and implement lean initiatives that drive continuous improvements in safety, quality, production flow and tooling in the Value Stream operations, following the Altra Business System (ABS) tools and methods. Lead and/or participate in Kaizen events and GEMBA “go and see” walks. Participate in daily team meetings and problem-solving sessions.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by enforcing compliance with the plant’s Safety Policy and state and federal OSHA regulations.
  • Fulfill support tasks as required by the role to include, but not limited to, developing and writing standard work and job breakdowns, auditing the process (i.e., Team Lead standard work, safety compliance and quality checks), completing production reports and problem-solving / corrective action documents, and maintaining training/skills matrices.
  • Provide coverage for Team Lead absences by performing elements of their standard work.
  • Collaborate with other departments to prevent or resolve abnormalities in the work flow and work area.
  • Transition shift information with previous and next shift peers to convey relevant information and production needs.

  • Willingness to be flexible and adapt to changes in internal processes, delays or unexpected events in order to keep the operation production ready.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle proprietary and sensitive information with integrity.
  • Demonstrated safety orientation and compliance mindset. Ensure a safe working environment exists and that safe work practices are being followed.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness and ability to work extended hours, including weekends as required in order to support customer needs.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred or 5 years’ relevant supervisory experience.
  • Previous machine shop production and/or warehouse leadership experience preferred
  • 5 or more years’ work history in a production/warehouse environment
  • Formal problem-solving training a plus
  • The Shift Supervisor will attend approved Company leadership, team lead and problem- solving courses as they become available, which will possibly involve domestic travel

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work environment

Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required to be worn in designated areas. Exposure to noise, respirable and airborne dust, molten iron and heavy castings while on the production floor. Exposure to the weather while working on outdoor projects.

Physical requirements

Lifting up to 50lbs, bending, reaching, walking or standing for long periods of time, working from heights and the ability to navigate through small spaces. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
