High School Social Studies Teacher

Freire Schools is seeking a thoughtful and passionate Social Studies Teacher to join our team for the 2023-2024 school year! Our Philadelphia High School campuses serve students ranging from 9th to 12th grade. . The ideal candidate should possess a deep understanding of Social Studies content and a passion for engaging our students with the world. Our ideal candidate will use a variety of teaching methods, including inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, and technology, to engage and challenge students.

TECH High School: 2221 N Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19132

Curriculum

We believe that the most equitable thing we can do for our students is to provide them with high-quality standards-aligned materials. We also know that our teachers know their students best, and we trust our teachers to be able to make instructional decisions about how to implement the materials in order to ensure that all kids are able to learn at a deep level. Our understanding of what that looks like is constantly evolving, but we are committed to doing so in all content areas.

Job Responsibilities

• Use a variety of instructional strategies and technologies to engage and motivate students in the learning process, and to promote critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration.

• Assess and monitor student progress through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations, and provide timely feedback and support to enhance their learning and address their academic needs.

• Collaborate with other teachers, staff, and administrators to ensure the overall success of the school and its students.

• Participate in professional development. Our Freire teachers engage in monthly staff-wide professional development and regular coaching and mentor support.

• Create a safe, respectful, and positive classroom environment that fosters students' academic and personal growth, and promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of previous successful experience working with diverse student populations is strongly preferred.

• Valid state teaching certification or the ability and willingness to obtain certification.

• Excellent communication and relational skills to interact effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators, and to promote a culture of respect, responsibility, excellence, collaboration, and social justice.

• Ability to work well individually and as part of a team.

• Freire Charter School just was awarded a $2M grant and Freire Wilmington a $1.8M 5-year grant to continue their 21st CCLC programs for the next five years.

• TECH Freire was one of only five schools, out of 39 total applications, approved to open a new Philadelphia charter school in 2016.
