Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust / Jersey Zoo
Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust is delighted to be able to offer a number of training Internships at it’s Jersey Zoo headquarters. These are designed primarily for university-level or early career conservationists wishing to develop their practical ''hands on' skills.
Jersey Zoo is a world-renowned Zoo focused on the breeding, care and conservation of some of the most threatened species. An Internship at Durrell will provide valuable experience to add to your CV, showing future employers that you are committed to a career in the conservation sector.
Where can I train?
There are opportunities to develop your skills in the mammal, bird, herpetology and Zoo education departments or on our red-billed chough reintroduction project. As well as hands on experience all interns will benefit from monthly lectures given by expert staff from different parts of the organisation. There is also an opportunity to carry out research projects, if this is a requirement of your sandwich or industry placement. How long can I train?
We offer Internships of 6 -12 months in length. Students attending a 6–7-month placement will specialize in one department, placements over 8 months will automatically work in two departments. There is flexibility on start dates, although 12-month placements will have to start in August/September 2023.
A full uniform, lunch pass and bus travel are available to all Interns, but interns must be prepared to cover all other costs including travel and accommodation. Jersey is an expensive island, so interns who are offered a placement will be provided with a list of households offering more affordable rooms for rental (expect a minimum rental budget of ~£95-100/week)
