SUMMARY:
Under the direction of Project Director, the Youth Advocate/Educator is an advisor of adolescent culture. This position supports the day-to-day initiatives and strategies associated with staff and customer relations for Native Challenge Department’s educational programming with the Native Youth in the local communities.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
▪ "Go-to" on day-to-day cultural relations adaptations, considerations, and modifications.
▪ Supports the Program Staff with Native Youth relations and cultural strategy.
▪ Uphold continuous improvement planning processes.
▪ Consults with Project Director and Project Lead on cultural development
▪ Supports department with the performance processes and activities
▪ Recommends enhancements to current policies and procedures to align with business
strategy and culture; provides suggestions to Program Staff.
▪ Provides guidance to program staff and leadership; discuss possible actions to be taken to
ensure improvement in department and to positively impact turnover.
▪ Organizes and executes departmental focus groups/round tables/talking circles and
appropriate recommendations to supervisor.
▪ Responsible for planning and execution of appreciation and engagement activities.
▪ Implement program curricula(s) with fidelity
▪ Teach prevention education in schools, community and at conferences.
▪ Effectively applies principles of oral and written communication in mentoring and teaching
youths.
▪ Identifies and contacts community resources and leaders to gain cooperation, participation
and ownership in assessing and fulfilling community health needs.
▪ Supports the philosophy and objectives of Riverside-San Bernardino County Indian Health,
Inc.
▪ Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience:
Community engagement and/or supervisory/leadership experience Demonstrated customer service skills.
Coaching and leading a team and providing feedback
Working in a highly confidential and sensitive environment and
Demonstrated sound judgment when dealing with these matters
Skills:
Effective communication (written and verbal) in one-on-one, group settings
Organizational and time management skills
Excellent active listening, conflict management and negotiation skills
Must know and be able to use various computer systems. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) required
Ability to:
Travel to distant sites.
Work variable work schedule, evenings, and weekends to meet client and
program needs.
Must be able to work with the Indian Community, and be
Sensitive to Indian culture and their needs.
