The Yard Supervisor is based in Mason City, IA and reports directly to the Process Manager.

What you’ll get to do

  • Supervise and direct Laborers. Ensures personnel has the necessary training to perform the tasks assigned.
  • Direct cleaning and maintenance of the grounds, buildings, rail tracks, and other areas of the plant. Conduct inspections of the work areas and determine the type and priority of work to be performed. Oversee the timely and effective completion of the work.
  • Responsible for storage and handling of raw materials delivered to the plant. Monitor these levels of limestone to ensure that adequate supplies are available for production needs.
  • Monitor all relevant equipment, machinery, and tools used by labor personnel, and schedules all necessary and routine maintenance. Prepare and submit work orders.
  • Develop/keep equipment checklists and operating procedures for the department. Updates equipment records and maintains required production records and files.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving problems. Work with other departments to remediate any operational problems.
  • Plan and coordinate projects as required. Supervise contractors for projects as required.
  • Follow existing work schedule and perform project work and coordinate vacation relief.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of the annual shutdown.
  • Cross-train to be the fill-in for the Production Control Supervisor when needed.
  • Proactively manage the health & safety of employees to continuously improve the company's health & safety performance
  • Ensure compliance with plant policies & procedures, safety, and environmental, state, and federal process regulations.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • HS Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of cement plant operating experience or experience in the operation of heavy equipment
  • Must be able to supervise and troubleshoot technical or operational concerns.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interact as a team member.
  • Good supervisory, leadership, and motivational skills. Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Must have a good overall knowledge of the plant from both maintenance and process viewpoints.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficient with window based PC software programs, and SAP.
  • Ability to make timely and critical decisions - able to work under conditions of stress and deal with a multitude of tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must have a high degree of self-motivation and be able to work independently

Work Environment

The role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions. Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces. Occasionally required to climb ladders or steps and enter into confined spaces.
