The Career Services Advisor/Workforce Specialist is responsible for providing quality services to job seeking customers in an American Job Center environment, which may include but is not limited to the provision of one-on-one, virtual and over the phone employment services, workshop facilitation, job search navigation, the provision of assessments, career guidance, and labor market information.

Arapahoe/Douglas Works is a grant-funded organization that has been successfully operating for over 30 years. All positions are subject to grant funding availability.

Duties

  • 100% direct contact with various types of workforce center customers to ascertain needs and navigate to appropriate staff and/or programs.
  • Respond to basic Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits questions from UI claimants.
  • Assist job seekers in making informed career decisions based on local and regional economic demand by providing timely labor market job-driven information.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of programs with and without eligibility requirements, system applications, social media websites, program web interface, and technical equipment to assist customers in their job search activities.
  • Provide coverage and service delivery, in-person and virtually, in all areas within Career Services at all A/D Works locations as needed and necessary.
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with customers, colleagues, and partners.
  • Provide one-on-one guidance in person, remotely, and via phone of pre-employment skills and job coaching to customers regarding work history, education, interests, abilities and other relevant variables affecting employability. Track and follow up on the customer's progress.
  • Interpret program requirements, benefits and other information to customers.
  • Assist customers in using resource area, labor market information, resume preparation, conduct mock interviews, and other basic job search activities.
  • Create and facilitate job readiness workshops virtually and in-person.
  • Complete requisite data entry in Connecting Colorado and other applicable databases as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Initiative – must accurately identify internal and external customer needs. Maintains high level of productivity and self-direction.
  • Knowledge/Technical Skills – must have adequate keyboarding, spelling/grammar and intermediate computer literacy. Will develop proficiency in use of office and program specific software. Must be proficient in laws, regulations and policies governing program(s). Must have working knowledge of career assessments, guidance and job search methods.
  • Planning and Organizing – must have proficient calendaring, time management and prioritization skills.
  • Communication – Demonstrate effective oral and written communication. Must be able to respond within one-business day to all voice mails and e-mails received.
  • Judgement/Decision Making – Must make decisions congruent with program and agency agoals, laws, regulations, policies and guidelines.
  • Interpersonal Communication – Communicates with all internal and external customers with professionalism, accountability, and integrity

Requirements

Education and Experience:

B.A. or B.S. Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, Human Services or related field

Or

AA, or two year certificate AND Two (2) years of experience working with economically, culturally or socially disadvantaged clients in the context of job counseling, vocational education, vocational or pre-employment assessment, Workforce Development, vocational rehabilitation or related field.

Or

High School Diploma or GED equivalent AND Two (2) years of specialized academic training in one of the above fields (60 academic credit hours or a combination of academic credit hours and specialized training equaling 200 classroom hours)

(Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job may be sufficient).

  • Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position.
  • Spends 50% of the time sitting and 50% of the time either standing or walking.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries, pulls or pushes up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 25 lbs.
  • Occasionally climbs, stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches while performing office or work duties.
  • Verbal and auditory capacity enabling constant interpersonal communication through automated devices, such as telephones, radios, and similar; and in public meetings and personal interactions.
  • Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of automated office machinery or equipment.
  • Visual capacity enabling constant use of computer or other work related equipment.
  • Will require at time traveling to remote locations or events outside of home base
