Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) is currently accepting applications of Wildland Fire Engine Operators at their Bridge (Myrtle Point) location for the 2023 fire season.

Engine Operator duties include, but are not limited to:
Operates an Engine used to pump and distribute water necessary to the suppression and extinguishing of wildland fires. Acting and performing effectively in a team environment to perform initial and extended attack wildland firefighting including fire line construction and mop-up using standard firefighting hand tools, deploying hoselays, operating pumps, and acting as nozzle person and hose person in fire suppression as well as the use of hand tools to clear roadside debris and vegetation in prevention activities. Experience operating vehicles with manual transmissions, 4-wheel drive and/or airbrakes, wildland fire engines or crew transports while obeying all traffic laws and/or driving on steep, narrow forest and/or logging roads is required. Performs or directs others in starting pump engine, priming pump, adjusting engine speed and pump valves, laying hose, appropriate nozzle use, effective use of water and additives. Inspects, checks, services and adjusts various items of equipment including pumps, hose lays, tank and reels for equipment readiness. Performs cleaning and maintenance of various items of equipment including the washing of vehicles. Painting and maintenance of both District and Unit buildings, grounds and landscaping utilizing various pieces of equipment as assigned. Participates on minor construction and repair projects.

Working conditions require long hours of arduous physical activity in difficult terrain and in all types of weather with exposure to various hazards including, but not limited to poison oak, bees, smoke, snakes, steep terrain, noise, heat, dust, burning and/or falling materials and other hazards. Position will be required to work with and monitor field productivity, quality and compliance with established safety and policy guidelines, as well as attend District safety meetings and trainings. Passing and maintaining the physical fitness level necessary is required. Various shifts including nights, weekends, holidays and long hours with short notice may be required. Assignments to emergency incidents may require being away from the assigned duty station for extended periods of time with occasional travel throughout the state of Oregon.

Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications.
