About Regional Transmission Organizations (RTO/ISO’s)

Transmission of electricity is administered on a regional basis in the United States. Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) operate the wholesale power grid and are responsible for moving electricity over large interstate areas. Each RTO is comprised of various committees and working groups that meet on a frequent basis to set RTO policy and address emerging issues related to the wholesale power market. For example, information on PJM Interconnection (the largest RTO in the country) can be found at: http://www.pjm.com/about-pjm.aspx. Other relevant RTOs include ISO-NE, NY-ISO, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and CAISO. Gabel Associates RTO Services and Regulatory Affairs group comprises a dedicated team of energy industry professionals with deep knowledge of energy and capacity markets, the integration of renewable and storage technologies, energy policy, and the complexities of the various RTO markets and processes.

About the Wholesale Power Markets Senior Associate Position

The firm is looking for a dedicated professional to join our RTO Services and Regulatory Affairs group, which serves as the primary point of contact for our clients transacting in wholesale power markets. The primary role will support our clients in Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), though our expectation is that responsibilities would expand to other regions depending on need and candidate interest.

The person in this role has an opportunity to be a thought leader in the development of wholesale power markets, developing policies and tariffs that promote the development of resources to make the electric system more efficient, environmentally advanced, and resilient.

Primary responsibilities as Wholesale Power Markets Senior Associate with Gabel Associates will include attending in-person and virtual meetings; monitoring RTO / ISO market developments; engaging with external clients as needed; analyzing and summarizing meeting discussions for Gabel Associates’ staff and external clients; applying regulatory knowledge to client specific projects.
