Job Summary:

Persons filling this role will be fabricating, welding and assembling parts for communication towers, utility structures, and commercial projects.

Job Scope:

This job has recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm. Welders/Fabricators can expect strict adherence to project specifications and deadlines. Duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Production Shift Lead and his or her Superiors and, where applicable, using established procedures and guidelines.

Essential Functions/Major Duties: include but not limited to the following:

  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment and a hazard free work place, free of obstructions and obstacles.
  • Read and interpret drawings.
  • Layout, cut, and fit material for welding.
  • Weld structural members using electric arc welding equipment according to customer specifications.
  • Perform cutting and hole making operations.
  • Perform plasma and oxy/fuel cutting processes.
  • Fabricate and weld structural and non structural components.
  • Utilize layout techniques for structural components including pipe and tubing.
  • Work in a safe and careful manner practicing good use of personal protective equipment and exemplary safety when handling or transporting materials.

Secondary Functions:

  • Maintain equipment being used.
  • Tasks or projects as assigned by the Production Supervisor

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Specific Skills:

· Excellent knowledge of structural steel shapes, sizes, and material grades.

· Fabrication layout, fit-up, and welding processes.

· Welding machine parameter setup and troubleshooting.

· Knowledge of AWS D1.1 Visual Acceptance Criteria

· Effective oral communication skills.

· Effective written penmanship and communication skills.

· Effective math and geometry skills.

· Knowledge of equipment related to structural steel fabrication and their uses and limitations.

Standards of Performance

· Communicate all critical items to supervisors and coworkers.

· Maintain a good working relationship with coworkers, leads and supervisors.

· Consistently displays the ability to recognize and deal with priorities.

· Demonstrated good planning and organizational skills which ensure the achievements of company goals.

· Consistently display a sense of urgency for all tasks. Complete work quickly.

· Absenteeism and tardiness less than 2%.

Compensation

Hourly wages consistent with market research on similar positions in Oregon.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 year experience as a fabricator, preferably in a manufacturing/production environment.
  • Minimum of 3 year experience as a welder, preferably in a manufacturing/production environment.

Job Conditions:

  • This position may involve repetitive activities, the use of geometry or advanced math, the operation of electric and/or hydraulic cutting and hole making equipment, hand tools, plasma cutters, propane/oxygen torches, and a variety of layout tools.
  • Work may involve high exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, welding arcs, sparks, and excessive noise.
  • Standard for a metal fabrication and welding shop.
  • Hours may exceed 40 per week.
