Position Description

The Warrant Officer 1, located in Juvenile Court and provides security in Juvenile Court facilities, including courtrooms, as well as serves and processes a variety of civil documents. Performs related duties as required.

Davidson County Juvenile Court’s mission is to prevent problems, promote the positive potential in all people, and pursue fairness and hope.

Employees may be required to work varying shifts and weekends.

This recruitment will be used to fill both Civil Service and Grant funded positions.

Typical Duties

  • Provide security in Juvenile Court facilities, including courtrooms.
  • Serve and process a variety of civil documents.
  • Locate persons and deliver subpoenas or warrants.
  • Perform various administrative duties.
  • Receive complaints and take appropriate action.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports as necessary.
  • Notify persons of court dates.
  • May provide transportation services as needed.
  • May place persons under arrest at the direction of a Judicial Officer.
  • May search and transport persons upon arrest.
  • May perform various security-related duties.
The work involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which require a range of safety and other precautions. Applicants must be physically capable of performing all of the position duties and of fully participating in all training requirements related to performance of those duties. Work may require working in restricted areas and defending oneself or others against physical attack.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma and one (1) year of public contact experience.

For this specific position, substitution will not be considered.

LICENSES REQUIRED:

  • Valid Driver's License

  • As part of the duties of this job, employees will be required to complete and pass a firearms training course approved by Juvenile Court within the first six months of employment. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination. Employees who carry firearms as part of their job duties must obtain a State of Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit prior to completion of the probationary period. Failure to obtain a State of Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit during the probationary period could result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

  • Employees in this classification shall be automatically upgraded to the next level in this classification series provided all of the criteria of Policy 5.6 B-I “Upgrades for Targeted Classifications” are met.

Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bilingual (Preferably English and Spanish)
  • Experience serving civil documents
