Position and Job Overview

To assist the Warehouse Shift Manager in managing, controlling, organising and planning the warehouse teams to achieve the agreed performance targets set at individual and departmental levels (including performance and absence management) that are under their direct supervision. Deliver the service and quality levels that are aligned to the Company’s processes and procedures through expert delivery of the site’s management control systems including but not limited to:- ISO quality and environmental, health and safety, delivery and assessment of training and development, stock integrity, completion of staff reviews and investigations.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Management and Supervision of warehouse staff to ensure the delivery of the operational targets for the warehouse, are achieved on a daily and periodic basis.
  • Assist with cover for the Distribution Driving Team during busy periods and holidays.
  • Manage staff performance on functional tasks throughout the warehouse operation including but not restricted to goods receiving, picking stock, packing orders, loading, put away and replenishment tasks and housekeeping.
  • To achieve optimum productivity levels in the warehouse operation, and to achieve agreed key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Allocate work to staff and measure performance to achieve completion of tasks.
  • Encourage and maintain a positive attitude and good working environment.
  • Manage the receipt of, and cross docking and onwards shipment of goods from NDC and VOW.
  • Handling Shortages and Returns, checking of VOW Portal.
  • Booking in backorders.
  • Supplier Returns.
  • Stocktaking and perpetual stock checks.
  • Reviewing and Managing Pick / Warehouse errors and providing feedback.
  • Ensure timely departure of vehicles, cross checking parcels and paperwork and highlight / manage any issues arising from the trunking process.
  • To ensure that training and development needs of staff are identified and addressed and contribute on a general basis to the development of staff members when required
  • Ensure overall quality targets are achieved in line with the Company’s quality processes to a 99.5% level.
  • Support all activities relating to the efficiency of the site i.e. time and attendance, manpower controls and allocation of staff, delivery of projects and business initiatives.
  • Maintain an excellent level of housekeeping within a defined area of the site under the jobholder’s control.
  • Contribute to the management of operational costs and budgets especially with regard to the control and management of absence within your own team members.
  • Implement the Company’s policies and procedures in line with legislative requirements and best practice for all matters relating to the operational performance of the site.
  • To encourage good employee relations and morale through the delivery of effective communication and listening skills as well as promoting a can do attitude to all aspects of working life.
  • To provide the highest levels of customer service and focus through a customer centric approach of showing flexibility, agility and a dynamic way of working to achieve results.
  • Deliver operational excellence as a minimum standard in all practices.
  • Contribute positively to ISO standards 9001 and 14001.
  • Own Health & Safety and deliver management techniques to reduce risks.
  • Any reasonable request as and when required.

Person Specification:

Knowledge:

  • Warehouse management systems.
  • MHE and warehouse related equipment.
  • Warehouse functional tasks, goods inwards, picking, packing, and loading, working in racking and yard environments.
  • Committed to the philosophy of continuous improvement, and to a culture of team working.

Technical or Work Skills:

  • Supervision and management of people – ability to evaluate performance, supervise and train staff.
  • Managing upwards in terms of reporting and escalation.
  • Work as a team player.
  • Communications skills, one to one/group. Subordinates, colleagues and leaders.
  • PC literate on main software packages (Microsoft).
  • Able to work under own initiative.
  • Ability to plan scheduled work.
  • Ability to implement and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years’ experience at supervisor or similar level within a similar working environment.

Qualifications:

GCSE level minimum 3 above C level including language (relative to country of origin) Mathematics desirable.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull agreed determined weights.

40 hours per week - 5 days a week

Job Types: Permanent, Full-time

Salary: £25,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
