VP Head of Medical Affairs Radiology


The VP Head of Medical Affairs Radiology will act as the Regional Representative for Medical Affairs (MA) Radiology and provide strategic scientific and operational advice to regional/local marketing and country medical functions in Region Americas. As part of the global MA function the role will execute and apply the global perspective and leadership on a regional level in the Americas.


YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The primary responsibilities of this role, VP Head of Medical Affairs Radiology, are to:


  • Provide scientific/strategic Leadership for Region Americas within Bayer Radiology;
  • Lead the strategic discussion of scientific topics in the region representing Medical Affairs (MA) in the Americas;
  • Be an active contributing member of the Americas Leadership Team (ALT);
  • Leads the development of a regional Medical plan in cooperation with local medical representatives, the Global MA Disease Chapter, Product & DSB representatives as well as the ALT;
  • Act as a "broker" between local medical affairs and global medical affairs, meaning channeling local needs into the global organization and communicating global medical/scientific content into the local organizations;
  • Collaborates as needed with Americas Pharma Medical Affairs and support sustainability of the Region by managing medical/scientific activities in alliance with the overall Bayer Radiology strategy and complying with the relevant processes;
  • Identify common educational needs within region Americas and proposes opportunities to address them;
  • Provide strategic review of IIR/PASS studies and safeguards that these are in line with global/regional strategy and Bayer governance;
  • Lead and coordinate the discussion with and the development of Regional Thought Leaders (TLs);
  • Ensure planning and oversight of scientific advisory boards with key thought leaders and external customers. Represents Radiology’s viewpoint on products to thought leaders, scientific advisors, health authorities and to other external stakeholders;
  • Provide regional medical and scientific assessment/guidance of in and out licensing opportunities of development and marketed projects;
  • Ensure medical support for the regional and local competitive and generic strategies;
  • Ensure establishment of regular communication Pharma Medical organization on a regional and local level for Americas best practice sharing and medical governance topics.

Required Qualifications:


The incumbent is a highly successful physician with extensive professional and academic experience.


  • Medical Degree, combined with a successful track record in the pharmaceutical sector along with Medical Affairs experience;
  • An understanding of drug development and the commercialization process;
  • An understanding of regulations and pharmacovigilance with advanced knowledge of international pharmaceutical laws, standards and codices;
  • Proven leadership, motivational and interpersonal skills;
  • Outstanding leader who works collaboratively with cross functions focusing on continuous improvement and excellence;
  • Complexity solving personality who demonstrates ethical medical decision making;
  • Incumbent must embrace change and be able to work in a changing environment;
  • Able to work in a matrix structure requiring exceptional skills in gathering decision information, negotiation and communicating decisions and action;
  • Experience of effectively managing risk and compliance issues;
  • Experience in managing teams across cultures and geographies;
  • Executes his/her responsibilities with knowledge, accuracy, persistence, resilience and creativity seeking to work both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Radiology training and board certification, preferred;
  • 10 + years of experience in the pharmaceutical sector, preferred;
  • 5+ years of experience in US Medical Affairs, preferred.
