Position Title: VP – Director of Loan Operations
Reports To: Executive Vice President - Chief Operating Officer

Position Purpose:

The Director of Loan Operations administers and manages the commercial loan pipeline to ensure timely and compliant flow of loan files through the departments. Directs processors daily activity to ensure all key dates are met throughout the process, timely communications, loans are processed in a quality consistent with the company policies and procedures as well as meeting all regulatory requirements, and that all standards are being adhered to by the team. This management position requires working in a team environment to support all processing and operational functions related to the lending portfolio. This includes but is not limited to all loan types (Consumer and Business). This position will maintain policies and procedures to include compliance with required regulations pertaining to all lending pre- and post-closing activities. This position will provide direction, support, training, and back up to all the Bank’s Commercial Loan Processing and all lending Operations and Servicing employees as needed.

Responsibilities:

Personnel Management

  • Provide exemplary leadership and people management practices to ensure the staff is providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Hire, train and motivate all staff to achieve production goals.
  • Create a positive work environment for all team members.
  • Provides support for problem solving issues with team members by setting goals and objectives for the processing, closing, and booking staff that are measurable, achievable and in line with the company’s mission.
  • Conducts staff meetings as required. Directs, schedules, and coordinates both department functions.
  • Conducts performance appraisals as required. Formulates and implements corrective actions as needed. Recommends changes in the status of Loan Operations staff, including promotions, transfers, and salary adjustments and terminations (in conjunction with Team Leads of the departments).
  • Communicate to his/her manager for any training needs or issues within the department.
  • Prepare personnel to answer and assist customers, branch personnel and internal employees and serve as a second/third tier for escalated customer issues and questions.
  • Responsible for pledging loans which are FHLB eligible and filing the QCR quarterly reports
  • Monthly signoff and review of all GL accounts related Loan Operations

Procedure and Policy Management

  • Instructs personnel regularly regarding policy, procedure, and program changes.
  • Implement operation policies and procedures to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations and internal compliance requirements.
  • Conduct various assessments and audits to ensure department procedures are achieving accurate and desired results. Implement clean-up procedures and corresponding changes when necessary and as appropriate.
  • Reports any and all potential issues or monetary losses immediately to the designated supervisor with a plan to remediate the situation.

Production

  • Interact with auditors, loan review, compliance, and examiners to assist in Bank reviews and examinations. Follow up and correct any items addressed and ensure necessary changes or recommendations have been implemented as directed.
  • Responsible for the collection of HMDA reportable data.
  • If/when applicable, responsible for the overall collection of CRA reportable data and the communication of the data to the regulatory agencies Bank Compliance Department.
  • Prepares internal reports as assigned and when requested by management and senior management.
  • Understands that dealing effectively with people is as much a part of the job as the technical aspects. Promotes a positive attitude among co-workers and supervisors and demonstrates team-building skills by example.
  • Strong written communication skills are required to answer questions and communicate issues clearly & concisely to associates, customers as well as upper management.
  • Attend all required meetings and functions as directed by his/her supervisor.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

Skills:

  • 10 years or more of experience with loan booking, operational and servicing experience and commercial loan processing.
  • 10 years or more of supervisory experience.
  • Strong computer skills relevant to Microsoft Office Suites (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of banking principles and regulations.
  • Strong decision-making/problem resolution skills.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and math skills, organizational skills, and customer service skills.
  • Effective verbal and written skills to effectively communicate in the English language required.
  • Experience within Banking or similar field.

Abilities:

  • Ability to learn bank programed software.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with accounts while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to work all branch hours, remote or in office, including weekend and evenings.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, general business correspondence, and/or journals, or government regulations.
  • Ability to deal directly with the public, on the phone or face to face, following the Bank’s Customer Service Standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Jack Henry Silverlake, Abrigo Sageworks and Finastra LaserPro.
