What You'll Do:

Plans & administers NBH's volunteer program: implements a program for the recruitment of volunteers (e.g., writing & sending letters to local universities, attending volunteer fairs, local vendors and churches); implements department policies & procedures on volunteers; promotes the program within the hospital to facilitate patient referrals, collaborates with all disciplines (e.g., psychiatry, social work, psychology, adjunctive therapy, nursing) to determine the needs of the patients; develops volunteer assignments; interviews, screens, orients, assigns, evaluates talent; motivates individual/group volunteers; terminates volunteers as needed; coordinates & schedules volunteer training; arranges meetings with supervisory staff; provides orientation to the hospital for select students; provides for annual recognition of volunteers & staff who supervise volunteers (e.g., secures caterers, speakers, entertainment & serves as Master of Ceremony for the event), schedules group volunteers; assists groups with planning & securing resources; arranges for activity area staff supervision; provides ancillary assistance with fundraising activities; secures monetary & material resources from the community; receives, processes & acknowledges contributions to the program; provides resources to the Community Support Network (CSN); knowledge of NBH procedures for responding to workplace incidents & working knowledge of NBH safety & prevention programs, including infection control; knowledge of NBH safety procedures that minimize risk to patients & staff in a hospital or community environment; possess the ability to identify risks to safety & health & respond & report per NBH policies.

Performs public relations duties: interprets & implements the volunteer program, hospital & community based services to the community through speaking engagements; represents facility by sitting on community boards & committees; develops & maintains collaborative relationships with the community, social, civic & church organizations, individuals, university faculty & community mental health agencies; authorizes, schedules, structures, conducts/coordinates provision of tours of the hospital campus; provides information to the public as requested; produces & distributes hospital newsletter (e.g., takes photographs, writes articles, provides information), works with graphic designer & Office of State Printing;

Attends/participates in functions/meetings (e.g., staff meetings, hospital events & programs, recognition ceremonies), maintains records on program activities (e.g., time sheets, donations, services); prepares monthly, quarterly & annual reports; prepares annual budget request; monitors & evaluates effectiveness of volunteers & volunteer services; maintains accurate & current records; inputs on database; performs special assignments/projects as required.

WORKING HOURS: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (Part-time; 20 hours per week) Flexible evening & weekend rotation

Qualifications
18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. exp. in public relations; 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in methods/techniques for utilization of volunteer services; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in project/program management; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in interviewing; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in speech/public speaking.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
Knowledge of public relations; methods or techniques for utilization of volunteer services; interviewing; volunteer project/program management; employee training & development*; public speaking; budgeting*; speech writing*. Skill in operation of typewriter/personal computer*. Ability to gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; write meaningful, concise & accurate reports; prepare & deliver speeches for specialized audiences or general public.
