Primary Responsibilities

As the Virginia Beach Roadway Lead, you will be a member of HDR’s Mid-Atlantic leadership team and be responsible for representing the firm with such clients as VDOT.

Overarching responsibilities include driving the roadway business market in the region and providing strategic leadership in this market sector. This position is expected to serve as a senior project manager on strategic projects in the region and will be responsible for the entire design process from the Proposal through preparation of the Plans, Specifications and Estimate of moderate to large highway/roadway project or projects for clients such as VDOT and various municipalities and counties.

This will include the following duties:

• Coordinate all disciplines (roadway, structural, traffic, and environmental) involved in projects, coordinate with sub-consultants and coordinate with clients
• Keep projects on schedule and within budget
• Perform or assure that quality control is accomplished for each project and perform more complicated design work on larger projects
• Operational activities will involve managing/mentoring roadway staff
• Providing technical leadership for the Roadway/Highway discipline
• Will be responsible for leading client development activities and project pursuits for the purpose of growing the Mid-Atlantic Roadway practice area
• Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

• BS in Engineering.
• PE required.
• Must have experience and relationships working with VDOT and/or other transportation agencies in the Virginia Beach Area market.
• 15+ years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design and Project Management.
• Must have experience in leading business development efforts including client relationships and leading pursuits.
• Experience with InRoads, Microstation, GeoPak and/or other transportation design software packages
• Microsoft Office experience required.
• Project Management experience required.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to lead and mentor a growing and dynamic team of professionals
• Demonstrated leadership skills
