TOWN OF LAKEVILLE

COUNCIL ON AGING
PART-TIME TEMPORARY GATRA VAN DRIVER

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Provide “curb-to-curb” transportation of

Lakeville’s elderly, elderly handicapped and non-elderly handicapped in the
Lakeville/Middleboro area (occasionally assistance beyond curb-to-curb is extended as a courtesy). Maintain and submit a Daily
Passenger Log which includes no-shows, missed trips, changes in schedule and fare receipts.
Deliver and retrieve medical equipment. Run miscellaneous errands as needed.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: General supervision received from the Council on Aging Director.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential functions of duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

Provides transportation for community residents over the age of 60 and disabled individuals as scheduled by the Council on Aging office.

Door-to-door pickup assisting seniors with embarking and disembarking transporting senior to purchase groceries, etc. when necessary.

Attend ongoing training offered by MArtap coordinated by COA Director.

Report any unusual incidents to Council on Aging Director or in the absence of the Director to another employee. All vehicle and passenger accidents MUST be reported IMMEDIATELY and followed up with a written report.

Must enforce no smoking in the van.

Ensure that all passengers and driver SHALL be seat belted. Wheelchair transports must be thoroughly secured.

Van must be kept clean; at the end of each day the van is to be swept, wiped down, and any trash removed. The van should be filled with gas at the end of each shift.

Oil checked weekly & Driver must let the office know when maintenance is due; this information is placed on the windshield sticker (by GATRA)

QUALIFICATIONS, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

Part Time Council on Aging Van Driver approved by BOS 3.8.2021

Ability to deal effectively with elders in a pleasant and courteous manner.

Must possess certification in First Aid and CPR or ability to become certified within three (3) months of hire.

Must be able to a pass a CORI Check and Drug & Alcohol Testing (per Federal Transportation
Authority).

Must possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and have the access to reliable transportation.

Ability to comply with OSHA and ADA laws.

Ability to exercise independent judgement and move from one activity to another.

Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Ability to maintain good public and interdepartmental relations.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

High School diploma.

Prior to working, the Driver shall successfully complete GATRA training requirements.
Accessible Lift Use and Passenger Securement, Disability Awareness, Defensive Driving, Drug
& Alcohol Awareness Safety Sensitive Training (upon hire only), CPR & First Aid trainings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Use of upper body strength and mobility. Work involves sitting to perform work tasks, with intermittent periods of stooping, pulling, pushing, walking, and standing. There may be some occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 25 pounds and removing snow from the van.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Flexible work schedule; approximately 7-14 hours per week Monday – Friday.

This position is a non-exempt position as regarding federal and state minimum wage and overtime requirements and, therefore, is eligible to be paid at the rate of time and one half (i.e., one and one-half times) the regular rate of pay for all hours worked beyond 40 hours in a workweek.

Pay: $14.25 - $16.56 per hour
