Job Title: Temporary Plumber

Job Summary: Brookring Federal has a need for the services of twelve (12) qualified, full-time equivalent plumbers to support the Department of Veterans Affairs facilities in and near Los Angeles.

The plumber will work on a variety of systems such as steam distribution, water supply, fire sprinklers, drainage, sewage, oxygen, medical air, vacuum and nitrous oxide distribution and storage as well as mechanical equipment and appliances.

All tools, equipment and material will be provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Period of Performance: Start date to be determined based on plumber onboarding timeline. This contract will be performed over a period of 6 months.

Place of Performance & Work Schedule:

Work schedule varies depending on the worksite. Plumbers can choose between the following two available worksites:

Option 1:

West Los Angeles Plant Facility 11301 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90073
7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, 40 hours a week
Must be available to work any day of the week

Option 2:

Sepulveda Plant Facility 16111 Plummer Street North Hills, CA 91343
8:00 AM thru 4:30 PM, 40 hours a week
Must be available to work any day of the week

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 3 years of relevant experience, technical knowledge, and responsibility and integrity.

Job Duties:

  • Repair Plumbing Systems: The work involves installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing plumbing utility, supply, and disposal systems. Repair equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers. Work from building plans, blueprints, and sketches, to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operation, of systems and equipment. Use tools and equipment such as plumb bobs, mercury gauges, dividers, closet augers, sewer snakes, drain cleaners, high pressure jetters and hydrostatic pumps.
  • Install Plumbing Systems: Plumber must possess demonstrable knowledge of the plumbing code. Install plumbing systems. Install, modify, and repair systems by locating and tapping main lines, setting up system routes, placing and cutting route openings, placing hangers for proper level and slope. Determine and install valves, traps, and unions needed for proper operation systems. Install equipment by completing the routing and placement of systems leading to the equipment, and seating, hooking up, and testing the plumbing equipment.
  • Modify Plumbing Systems: Plan and lay out the needed routing, placement, slant, slope and fall of systems. The plumber tests and makes needed adjustments to systems and equipment for proper operation, flow, drainage, and sanitary conditions.
  • Install, Modify, & Repair Piping Systems: Piping systems include water, natural gas, high/medium/low pressure steam and condensate, medical gases, compressed air, heating and cooling, sewer, fire protection, irrigation, and deionized water. Set up system routes, place, and cut route openings, install regulating devices, and place hangers for proper pitch and elevation. Determine and install risers, flexible branches, expansion joints, pumps, gauges, and pressure regulators in the combination needed to support the pressures of the systems and that ensure the proper operation of the systems. Read and interpret blueprints, layout sketches, manufacturers' literature, and specifications for sizing, estimating, installing, and repairing new or existing piping systems. Replace sections of pipe, repair steam traps and relief and control valves. Cut, thread, and connect pipes by means of union, flanges, and sweating. Fit pipe sections by screwing, bolting, brazing, welding, gluing, fusing, and soldering.
  • Test systems and equipment for proper operation, circulation, flow, pressure, and leak-free joints: Trace and troubleshoot pipelines, systems, and equipment to locate and repair leaks and trouble spots. Plumber will have to also demolish portion of wall / ceiling to locate pipe leaks.
  • Perform safety and preventive maintenance inspections of systems and equipment.
  • Must have knowledge of all the applicable health and safety standards (including but not limited to OSHA requirements) while performing work.
  • Plumber must possess demonstrable knowledge of how various high-pressure piping systems and equipment, such as steam heating, steam generation, and circulating pumps, are installed and operate. Ability to plan and lay out the installation, modification, and repair of various new and existing piping systems and equipment. Ability to interpret and apply building plans and blueprints, and to use shop mathematics to lay out angles, arcs, and circles. Skill in any of the accepted trade methods and techniques. Skill in the use of tools and equipment such as sliding squares, plumb bobs, core drills, grinders, pipe cutters, pipe threaders and pipe wrenches. The Plumber must possess a good working knowledge and understanding of the Uniform Plumbing and Mechanical Code and able to apply this knowledge of plumbing principles.
