Description

Are you passionate about driving innovation?

Are you an expert in experimentation with unmanned systems looking for a creative outlet and truly impactful work?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our Human Machine Engineering team at APL!

We are seeking research and unmanned system expertise to help us experiment with Command and Control (C2) systems of the future. Our multi-disciplinary team consists of algorithm developers, computer scientists, psychologists, systems engineers, and others who seek to reshape this future through end-to-end human systems and performance engineering. With us, you will develop solutions to bridge the gaps in human-machine teams in information-dense, high-stakes environments to revolutionize and operationalize user-augmenting capabilities.

In this role you will:

  • Lead and contribute to projects involving C2 systems for unmanned platforms; influencing current and future fielded systems while advocating for end users
  • Shape requirements and use cases to drive current and future solutions
  • Coordinate team members and engage with sponsors to shape the path forward for unmanned system C2 and other technologies
  • Design and help realize experimentation campaigns for a range of systems
  • Work across teams, departments, and organizations to review results, refine concepts, oversee analyses, and propose solutions with a focus on advocating for the end user.
  • Produce documentation and reports to capture the experimentation process, lessons learned, and solutions.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
  • Hold a Bachelor's of Science Degree
  • Possess at least 5 years of experience with technology experimentation and at least 2 years of experience working in areas related to unmanned system development.
  • Have experience with Navy and/or other DoD unmanned systems and/or C2 systems
  • Have experience conducting warfighter engagement related to technology development or deployment
  • Have the ability to work independently and with government partners, DoD Sponsors, and analysis teams.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Have willingness to travel up to 10% of the time as needed.
  • Hold an active Top Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. To ensure the safety and well-being of the community, APL has established a policy requiring that all staff be vaccinated against COVID-19. All staff members must provide proof of full vaccination or have an approved medical or religious accommodation by their start date.
You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
  • Hold an Active TS/SCI clearance or above
  • Have experience working in a DoD-focused experimentation environment
  • Have at least 2 years of experience leading teams
  • Have experience sharing technical information with DoD audiences with a range of experiential and technical backgrounds, including senior officers in the DoD
