JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Operate and enforce system of personnel identification at entrance.
• Perform package inspection when required.
• Conduct patrols in accordance with established routes and schedules.
• Respond to all calls for assistance as quickly and safely as possible.
• Remain alert to all activities inside and outside the clinic.
• In the event of a fire alarm, assist in the orderly evacuation (if necessary) and assist in crowd control and traffic control until the arrival of the Fire and Police Department. Direct Fire Department to fire scene.
• In the event of an Intrusion alarm, notify on duty VA Police and investigate to determine the cause.
• Monitor Closed Circuit Security Cameras, building fire and intrusion detection systems and other protection devices or building equipment.
• Observe building occupants and visitors for compliance with posted rules and regulations.
• Monitor surveillance cameras where installed.
• Receive and store found articles pending disposition.
• Maintain law and order within the areas of assignment.
• Discover and detain persons attempting to gain unauthorized access to the property.
• Report daily potentially hazardous conditions and items in need of repair, including inoperative lights, leaky faucets, toilet stoppages, broken or slippery floor surfaces, etc. Notify responsible parties for correction as soon as possible and take action to prevent injury of patients or staff if applicable.
• Fly the United States flag (and other flags as authorized) as directed.
• Turn off unnecessary lights, check safes, lock-type repositories, and cabinets, close window, open and secure doors and gates, etc.
• Prepare required reports and provide, as necessary, to primary or alternate personnel.
• Immediately report any civil disturbances to local city and/or county law enforcement personnel.
• Other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized to legally work in the United States
• Must have at least two years of security guard experience
• Must have security guard card
• Shows mature judgment, reliability, dependability, tactfulness, and self-control
• Ability to retain composure and perform under pressure and to know when to call for assistance
• Ability to meet and deal effectively with the general public
• Ability to give instructions clearly and concisely, firmly but diplomatically
• Ability to see and respond to dangerous situations
