Under the direction of Radiology leadership the Ultrasound tech performs duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures in the use of ultrasound for the diagnosis of disease or pathology. Must use various ultrasound modalities dependent on the type of anatomy being examined. Must become proficient in recognizing cross-sectional anatomy and understanding of related technology. Demonstrates favorable guest relations and continues to promote values of the hospital in daily work performance. May also perform other related patient care duties.

Essential Job Functions

  • Prepares equipment and scanning area for patient procedures.
  • May transport or escort patients to and from ultrasound area.
  • May perform clerical and technical related duties as it pertains to retrieving previous exams.
  • Positions the transducer probe per protocols of anatomy.
  • Manipulates equipment controls to obtain maximum resolution of ultrasound frequency per protocols and during procedures.
  • Obtains scan in various required angles and positions.
  • Records scans on hard copy cd if need be and presents to the radiologist for approval when applicable.
  • Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross-contamination.
  • Checks equipment, accessories, and supplies.
  • Keeps areas stocked at all times and room clean.
  • Technologist cleans equipment per departmental policy and after each patient use.
  • Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department. Maintains ethical relationships.
  • May be requested to assist in the development of techniques for procedures. May assist in the use of a variety of equipment and procedures not routinely employed.
  • Assist others in the department, requests assistance when necessary and demonstrates a team approach to patient care.
  • Assist in developing the skills of students, trainees, or residents.

  • Always conveys compassion and respect for the patient/customer and co-worker.

(Note: Failure to perform satisfactorily in this essential function will block incumbent from a satisfactory performance evaluation rating.)

Required Minimum Education: Radiology Technology or Advanced Imaging


LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS
(must be non-expired/active unless otherwise stated):

Required: BLS

Preferred: ACLS, Certified in ultrasonic technology by the American Registry of Diagnotic

Minimum Years and Type of Experience: At least one full year of full time experience in clinical radiologic technology including didatic experience equivalent to the curriculum recommended by the American Society of Radiologic Technology or satisfactory completion of another imaging training program or one year clinical experiences in another imaging modality. Pediatric experience is a plus.
