Working Days/Hours: M-F some nights and weekends

Brief Summary of Job Duties

Under the direction of the Isla Vista Community Advisor supports the day-to-day operations and management of the Pardall Center in Isla Vista, a community center offering study, meeting and event space, legal and tenant education, printing, computers, and other resources for the community. Provides support to the AS Public Safety Commission's UCIV Volunteer program to promote peaceful interactions between public safety officers and Isla Vista residents and visitors to the community, including engaging in de-escalation, conflict resolution, and bystander intervention. Recruits, onboards, trains, and supervises student staff and volunteers, support the leadership of student entities who do work in Isla Vista, and encourages collaborations with other entities. Develops and enhances resources for the community and when needed connects people with additional resources on campus and in the community.

  • Basic knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Ability to work independently, anticipate job requirements, prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously

Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties

50% UCIV Program Support -

The UCIV Program Coordinator is the primary staff member in the Pardall Center (PC) while student UCIV teams are scheduled throughout the IV community. May at times accompany teams on the streets, particularly during major events such as Halloween. While on the PC, is available via phone to answer team member questions, provide resources and assist in making judgment calls as needed. Works with team leaders to ensure the student teams are fully prepared for their role in the community and are confident regarding when to pull away from situations and when to interact and assist the community. Completes training in most of the following areas and facilitates students receiving the training. Safe Space, CARE (Camps Advocacy, Resources & Education), Alcohol and Other Drugs Certification, CPR Certification, LRC Know Your Rights, Undocumented Student Services Training, and others.


10% Community Facilitation -

Attends meetings of student and community entities to provide support for student work in Isla Vista and serves as a liaison on behalf of students. Works with student entities to provide support for student projects, ensuring event advising, handling contracts, and performance agreements. Supports all programmatic efforts of the student entities involved in work within Isla Vista. As delegated by the IV Community Advisor, supports AS in IV work to provide opportunities for collaboration among AS groups and the community.


20% Facilities Management -

Provides support for management of the Pardall Center including, security, (keys, alarm system, membership entrance). Works with other AS staff, university staff, and outside contractors to ensure space is safe, and maintained. Serves as lead project manager for construction or repair. Monitors operational procedures. Ensures that facility users have the resources they need in terms of physical space. Ensures scheduling of space for events as needed.


20% Administration -

Assists the UCIV team leaders in scheduling coordinators and volunteers and tracking participation. When needed, may participate in recruitment and selection of student coordinators. Constant phone and emails to ensure shifts are covered. Researches needs of students and staff. Provides administrative support for the Isla Vista Community Advisor, particularly in the planning and organizing of special events. Works as part of a team with staff and students to provide planning and support in other projects as needed. Provides general office assistance as needed: answers inquiries secure technology needed for events, orders and tracks catering for events fills out requisitions and secures signatures, general filing, and clerical duties, orders supplies, and runs errands. Provides assistance in the planning of other projects as needed. Provides regular, daily reports to students and staff on accomplishments and any issues encountered. May perform other duties as assigned.
