Transportation Assistant

Location: 630 Hart Lane Nashville, Tennessee 37216

M-F, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

  • The employee will be responsible for driving to locations across the state to perform water sample collections at day care facilities and schools. They will return the samples (shipping or courier) to the Tennessee public Health Laboratory (SPHL). The position will also entail communicating with facilities and preparing supplies for shipment. Time permitting, the technician will also be responsible for organizing laboratory data and preparing data spreadsheets for the grant administrator. The employee will act as the primary point of contact for the WIIN program at the SPHL.
  • Duties
  • Logs and tracks the receipt and shipment of all samples into and out of the laboratory and verifies receipt of samples.
  • Determines the priority level and appropriate testing procedures of samples according to Chain of Custody as well as labels and stores samples in accordance with documented procedures.
  • The Sample Control Technician will be responsible for pick-up and delivery of samples as well as additional customer service, driving, or courier duties as necessary to support laboratory and client needs.
  • Prepares bottle kits daily to be shipped to clients to collect samples and return for analysis in accordance with established procedures including EPA and DOT requirements.
  • Stocks and supplies inventory daily and assists with inventory of supplies to maintain proper quantity of materials to perform tasks appropriately.
  • Maintains communications with clients regarding supply ordering and results.
  • Basic Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid state issued driver's license to operate company vehicles
  • Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle background check as required for company driver certification.
  • May drive for long periods, up to 8 hours per day.
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

Other Expectations:

  • Employee will be responsible for using own insured vehicle to travel to sampling locations.
  • Employee will be responsible for submitting reimbursements (mileage, food, hotel) for expenses incurred.
  • Employee is expected to be employed for a minimum of six-months with the possibility of a 6-12 month continuation.
  • Employee is expected to work 40hrs per week split between in lab and field work.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $15.00 per hour
