CDL DRIVER

Purpose:

The CDL Shuttle Driver is responsible for the safe transportation of Morris Furniture Co., Inc. merchandise to and from the Distribution Center and Retail Showrooms.   In this role, the CDL Shuttle Driver will be accountable to successfully complete a pre-planned delivery route providing superior customer service as they unload, deliver, and install furniture in our showrooms partnering with the local warehouse team.

General Description of duties:

  • Safely load specified merchandise onto the truck in the correct order for delivery
  • Items are typically on scooters and can be pushed from the staging area directly onto the truck
  • Bulky and awkward items should be loaded as a team
  • Workers are required to ask for assistance with material handling of items greater than 100 pounds.
  • Whenever possible workers should utilize various wheeled assistive devices such as dollys, carts, and scooters to manipulate materials onto the truck
  • Complete the daily check-in procedure which includes:  visual inspection of the truck: check for flat tires, check lights, inspect shocks, etc., check under the hood: inspect belts and fluids, sign-out the delivery tool-kit and supplies including blankets, straps, and tablet
  • Obey all traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures while driving/operating a Morris Furniture Co., Inc. delivery truck
  • Carefully drive the truck and deliver merchandise in all weather conditions to ensure safety for yourself, the customers, and the furniture being delivered
  • Keep an accurate and up-to-date delivery log of all delivery stops utilizing the specified technology and process determined by management
  • Determine the safest and most appropriate way to transport merchandise
  • Respond to communication from headquarter location regarding any route changes or updates
  • Work together with the local warehouse team to move merchandise to designated locations in our showrooms
  • Complete any final assembly and/or set up as indicated by product type
  • Complete showroom re-deliveries, when necessary
  • Relocate containers and trailers in the truck yard
  • Complete “dump runs” when necessary

​Qualifications:

  • Ability to safely load, unload and operate a Semi-Trailer Truck
  • Work as a part of a cooperative team where the members may change frequently
  • Ability to assemble all Morris Furniture Co., Inc. products
  • Ability to safely lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to quickly move your hands and arms to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects when handling, installing, positioning, or moving furniture

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of Morris Furniture Co., Inc. Driver Training Program
  • Valid State-Issued Driver’s License
  • DOT Medical Card
  • Valid CDL Driver’s Credentials/License

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, see, bend, twist, and lift 50 pounds.  Employees will need to be able to operate a box truck, dolly, wheeled card, lifting straps, and other moving support equipment.
