The Opportunity
WSDOT has exciting opportunity for a motivated individual who has strong leadership skills and exceptional aptitude for managing projects. The Project Engineering Office in Kelso is looking for Transportation Engineer 3 to serve as Design/Construction Team Lead on one or more projects. This position will manage and mentor team members and provide guidance regarding design and construction functions to ensure that WSDOT projects meet established standards, policies, and procedures. What to Expect
Occasional field work performed with the purpose of observation and information gathering. Exposure to hazards include traffic, noise, construction, weather, and uneven terrain.

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the TE3 Team Lead will:
  • Serve as Construction and Design Team Lead for the Project Engineer on one or more projects.
  • Ensure design of highway projects are developed according to the current and appropriate Federal, WSDOT, and local guidelines and procedures.
  • Lead a team or teams of designers and provide guidance, as necessary, that prepares and/or reviews design documentation, reports, calculations, estimates, etc., following design manual guidance for design documentation package and project file to deliver assigned projects.
  • Prepare plans, estimates, special provisions, specifications, and other information needed for project completion applying agency policies, standards, and procedures as well as transportation engineering principles.
  • Lead a team of construction inspectors and provides guidance, as necessary, in delivery of assigned projects.
  • Monitor the contractor's work and coordinate with contractors’ supervisory personnel to ensure work is conducted in conformance to the contract plans, specifications, and special provisions.
  • Ensures material samples and tests are performed as required for acceptance in the field or materials lab/trailer.
  • Provide technical assistance to consultants and coordination with internal support groups throughout their development of the Design Documentation Packages and PS&E’s.
  • Researches and prepares documentation for change orders and communicates with contractor to obtain information.
  • Participate in the implementation and development of pre-activity safety plans.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • One (1) year of experience as a Transportation Engineer 2 or equivalent.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent degree field, from an accredited university.
  • Engineer-In-Training Certification (EIT).
  • Valid Driver's License.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Engineer 2 or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer’s License in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated competency in Design and Construction projects.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.
