Overview:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- The Training and Development Officer is primarily responsible for the delivery of curriculum using lesson plans to instruct personnel in specialized training relating to specific aspects of the NASA Protective Services/Security Training Program, in addition to providing duties of Armorer on site.
- Security Police Protection Force Development Officer shall provide to NASA Contractors and Civil Servants additional security, safety, and related law enforcement courses as directed by the KSC NPSTA Training Manager or NHQ Annex COR.
- Read, speak, understand, and apply printed rules, detailed orders, instructions, and training materials in English.
- Must be able to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
- High school diploma.
- 5 years law enforcement training (or Range Master) experience or ten years of civilian/law enforcement or two years of providing SPO training.
- Complete a NASA Protective Service Training Academy basic course of instruction.
- Must be able to maintain and qualify periodically on a course of fire with handgun, or other special weapons.
- Must possess and maintain a driver’s license.
- Have no record or history of illegal drug use, sale, possession, or manufacture.
- Have no felony convictions and no convictions that reflect on the individual’s reliability including those crimes classified under the Lautenburg Act.
- Must be able to meet and maintain NASA Physical Certifications.
- Required to adhere to all government agency guidelines as it applies to COVID vaccine Attestation/Restrictions.
- NBTS Instructor certified.
- Glock Basic Armorer certified.
- Range Instructor certified.
- ICS-100.
- ICS-200.
- ICS-300.
- IS-700.
- IS-800.
- Hazwoper certified.
- Emergency Medical Responder certified.
- BLS certified.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of training aids and devices and skill sufficient to review and evaluate existing audiovisual aids to identify those materials that will best accomplish the training objectives.
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, practices and techniques of specialty areas to design, evaluate, revise, or develop training systems, materials, aids, methods, training plans, etc.
- Must have a comprehensive knowledge of law enforcement concepts, techniques, and security procedures. In addition, must maintain a thorough knowledge of the state-of-the-art police methods and practices and incorporate this knowledge into the training curriculum. This requires a diversified knowledge of law enforcement/security operations, including drug and substance abuse control, property security, terrorist acts, sabotage and espionage prevention.
