We deliver system expansions and upgrades for bus, commuter railroads, freight railroads, and light and heavy rail transit systems.

Gannett Fleming is seeking a Track Technical Lead to support major transit and rail related projects and clients on large scale track design, studies, and maintenance assessment assignments for the firm that include the Greater Philadelphia, Baltimore-DC Metro, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. Gannett Fleming offers a flexible work environment to include hybrid and fully remote options.

Successful candidates must have knowledge and experience in track maintenance and asset management, track form systems, railroad/transit planning, and conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design of rail transit and heavy freight guideways.

Duties will include:
  • Planning, organizing, and overseeing the work of a track design team in urban transit, intercity transit, and heavy rail systems;
  • Lead the design of complex track arrangements including special trackwork, maintenance and facility yards, embedded and direct fixation, and conventional ballasted track systems;
  • Advise team on assessing the condition of track networks and provide recommended approach and remediation measures;
  • Lead track maintenance assessment reports, track system optioneering, and remediation measures;
  • Chairing frequent meetings (internal and client) and management of client deliverables and expectations
  • Compose project specifications, concept reports, design briefs, constructability reports, and additional technical reports;
  • Preparation of design calculations and optimization and development of design analytical tools;
  • Provide mentorship and develop junior staff in software and/or analytical works;
  • Preparing and monitoring project work plans, scopes of work and methodologies, client presentations, and project scheduling;
  • Interdisciplinary rail systems coordination;
  • Review shop drawing submittals; and
  • Overseeing and executing quality review process for submittals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited University (Civil Engineering preferred);
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.)
  • 10-15 years’ experience in railroad engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to lead design and maintenance tasks on medium to large scale transit/rail related projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various track systems including embedded and direct fixation track
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and development of large and complex transit and freight rail works, including alignments, rail yards, special trackwork, junctions, and facilities
  • Demonstrated keenness for innovation by generating new and better methodologies and tools to solve toughest challenges faced by clients
  • Capable of working across multidisciplined teams both onsite and remotely, and manage client deliverables and expectations
  • Civil3D, OpenRail, or MicroStaton/AutoCAD experience is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of Local Agency Codes and Standards
  • Strong written and verbal and communications skills
  • Previous experience mentoring and developing core strength skills for junior staff.
