Looking for TIG Pipe/Tubing Welder for Copper-Nickel for a shipyard.

***Shipyard experience is A PLUS***

You will be expected to work within a team of Pipe Fitters and welders to achieve maximum production in minimum time, standards and quality in keeping with company policies, while maintaining a positive and motivated team environment.

SUMMARY

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skill, and/or ability desired.

The individual must have working knowledge of procedures, strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to follow directions. The individual must possess experience in the trade and knowledge of ship terminology. The individual must demonstrate ability to interpret job specifications and perform work on marine vessels.

Must be able to follow directions and work with limited supervision. Also, must be willing to develop other team members’ skill level.

Some of the key position highlights, but not limited to, are as follows:

 Read and interpret basic drawings and weld symbols. (KPI)

 Pass weld test for all Swift Ships weld procedures in the 6GR position (KPI)

 Pass Swift Ships TIG weld test procedure for aluminum pipe (KPI)

 Ability to work to Swift Ships TIG Welding standards (KPI)

 Work to Swift Ships housekeeping procedure (KPI)

 Inspection of work, identification of potential problems, initiation of corrective

actions. (KPI)

 Increase awareness of Quality procedures within department (KPI)

 Perform as a productive working team member that meets daily goals set by the

supervisor. (KPI)

 Continuously improve communications and flexibility within the team. (KPI)

 Help build the team environment. (KPI)

 Build pride of workmanship and quality through on job training. (KPI)

 Contribute towards innovation / productivity improvements. (KPI)

 Assist in the control of waste elimination, e.g. materials, consumables etc. (KPI)

 Assist supervisor to maintain control of department equipment and its maintenance.

 Ensure work area is left clean, all equipment and tools are stowed away safely and

protected against damage(KPI)

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 Must have in depth knowledge and experience in planning, layout, cutting, fitting,

assembly and pipe welding

 Must have (3+) years’ experience in pipe welding or related trade with a minimum

of (3+) years’ experience in tungsten inert gas welding (TIG/GTAW) experience

in installation, maintenance, and repair of high energy piping systems onboard marine

vessels.

 Must have thorough knowledge of pipefitting equipment, sizes and schedules

 Must be able to rip out, repair, target, layout, fabricate, install and test marine piping

systems onboard ships in various stages of repair and modernization

 Must be able to perform pipe welding requirements to 6G

 Must be able to create weldments, utilizing a variety of procedures, which must pass

visual (VT), magnetic particle (MT), liquid penetrate (LPT), and/or radiographic

inspections (RT), as appropriate

 Must be able to fabricate mockup, targets or fixtures to increase quality and

production.

 Must be able to repair and replace ships' piping systems such as Auxiliary Salt Water,

Fire Main, Potable Water, Hydraulic, Compressed Air, Fuel Oil, Lube Oil, Engine

Exhaust, and Steam.

 Must be able to test installed systems utilizing hydrostatic or other comparable

pressure testing means for system integrity after repairs or installation

 Must be able to certify braze Grade III, IV and V filler material in all joint positions

 Must have strong knowledge of NAVSEA/Military Standards

 Must have strong Knowledge of Marine Blueprint reading and interpretation, with the

ability to interpret sketches and drawings to develop specifications for product to be

fabricated and/or installed

 Must have strong procedural knowledge of pipe welding.

written, oral, or diagram form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to tour all vessels and work sites.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit.

Specific physical requirements include but are not limited to the following:

1. Must have the ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel.

2. Perform prolonged standing.

3. Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis.

4. Lift/push/pull 50lbs on an occasional basis.

5. Lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis.

6. Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes

stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps).

7. Ability to work at heights above 12’ while working from ladders, scaffolding and/or

man lifts.

8. Able to work at a variety of levels (ex. waist, eye, overhead).

9. Demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment.

10. Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering

obstacles.

11. Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and

equipment.

12. Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes

shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per

OSHA standards.

13. Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures.

14. Ability to enter 18” x 36” openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged

periods of time within OSHA guidelines.

15. Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.

16. Able to utilize adequate visual skills.

17. Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side and reaching down.

18. Ability to perceive attributes of an object/material such as size, shape, temperature

and texture by means of receptors in the hands and fingers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat. PPE available and MUST be used correctly.

Key Performance Indicators (KPI)

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are evaluated by your first line supervisor and feedback will be provided during your quarterly evaluation or as needed. All performance is not judged on KPIs. Being a member of the team, assisting your peers, and providing timely responses on tasks are also considered. However, KPI evaluations give the management team a fast snapshots on overall performance. It is taken into consideration when employees are due for raises or even promotions to more advanced positions.
