DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Responsible for providing social service functions in the behavioral health care setting. Provides assessments, group therapy and case management to clients and families. Assumes oversight of daily clinical services provided in Outpatient Program Services to include providing direction in crisis situations and facilitating supervision to associate level clinicians, per their Board regulations. Offers guidance to healthcare professionals concerning psycho-social issues and community referral. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in QA/PI activities. Additional supervisory responsibilities as delegated.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts individual therapy sessions consistently as prescribed in the treatment plan. Individual session documentation is well written, specific to the treatment plan, and filed by the therapist in the chart within a timely fashion.
  • Conducts group therapy sessions consistently as prescribed in the treatment plan. Group therapy documentation is well written, specific to the treatment plan.
  • Evaluates client data, develops and implements a timely treatment plan for the client that meets department specifications (behavioral definitions derived from assessments, short term objectives based on observable and measurable behavior).
  • Participates in treatment planning for each client, works cooperatively as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, treatment plan reviews are timely and accurately reflect client progress.
  • Communicates with family members and caretakers regarding the needs of the client and anticipated plans. Provides case management and discharge planning services as indicated.
  • Keeps current with advances in counseling through continuing education, seminars, professional societies, journals, etc.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Licensing:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited university. Registered with BBS.
  • Licensed in the state of California as a Clinical Social Worker or Marriage and Family Therapist preferred.
  • BLS certification within 30 days of employment and maintain current.
  • CPI, MAB, or Behavioral Violence Prevention within 60 days of employment and maintain current.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • One year experience working as a Child/Adolescent /Family Therapist, preferred.
  • LPS experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to the Regional Director of Outpatient.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
  • Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments. Is open to feedback from others and implements required changes without resistance.
  • Exhibits calm and controlled attitude; does not overreact to allow his/her own actions to further deteriorate the situation.
  • Speaks with authority in a calm and clear voice, uses proper selection of words and has knowledge of when and how to use them.
  • Directs the behavior of the patient to ensure compliance with facility rules and enforces rules governing patient supervision in an unbiased and professional manner.
  • Follows safety procedures in a calm manner and responds quickly when an alarm sounds or a code is announced.
  • Accepts feedback in a positive manner and applies it to improve performance and further learning.
  • Completes annual educational requirements and maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Completes bio-psychosocial evaluations on assigned clients in a timely fashion. Displays good interviewing, diagnostic and reporting skills.
  • Actively works with client through treatment process, specifically obtaining client input and signature on all treatment plans and subsequent reviews.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following:

  • Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time.
  • Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population.
  • Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Perform complex mental functions and basic arithmetic functions; interpret complex laws, regulations, and policies; collect, interpret, and/or analyze complex data and information.
  • Vision: see details of objects at close range.
  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Reach forward, up, down, and to the side.
  • Sit or stand for minimum periods of one hour at a time and come and go from the work area repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
