Overview

Responsibilities

Support the mission of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Engineering Directorate Modeling & Simulation (M&S) Office (DES) to assess the capabilities of the Missile Defense System (MDS) in a distributed Hardware-In-the-Loop (HWIL) simulation environment, including Continuous Developmental Integration (CDI) activities, MDS Ground Test (GT) events and MDS Flight Test support.


Focus will be on supporting the development and deployment of the Ground Test Integrated System Simulation (GTISS). The GTISS is an integrated, distributed architecture composed of the Objective Simulation Framework (OSF) and participating Missile Defense System (MDS) Element Hardware-In-the-Loop (HWIL) and digital representations. As MDA's next generation real-time simulation architecture for performing Ground Tests of the MDS, the capabilities of the GTISS will be verified against the top-level requirements defined in the Ground Test System Requirements Document (SRD) to provide objective evidence to support accreditation for use in Ground Test.


In support of these tasks, the candidate is expected to adhere to current processes and procedures, participate in document reviews, attend limited meetings, provide status as requested, and collaborate with team members in person and electronically. The candidate is expected to be self-sufficient in the execution of these integration responsibilities within six months.


Act as a liaison between the simulation software developers, integrators, data analysts, and test planners, conductors, and other stakeholders to include MDS element Points of Contact.


Provide strategic planning support for risk reduction and GTISS development activities; coordinate scheduling of test resources (facilities, personnel, etc.)


Collect and consolidate GTISS capability requirements needed by MDS stakeholders.


Coordinate with simulation software developers for the translation of these needed capabilities into GTISS implementation strategies, development schedules, and test plans.


Identify M&S engineering criteria needed to burn down simulation risk between OSF and element M&S.


Participate in MDA planning and coordination meetings.

Capturing changes to test schedules and testing needs and requests for new or enhanced OSF capabilities in support of GTISS.


Inform MDA test event planners of GTISS capabilities and limitations, development activities, and delivery schedules; test case delivery schedules; GTISS test readiness; and status of GTISS test execution.


Review MDS test plans to identify needs for new framework capabilities, test event schedules, and GTISS ability to support.


Coordinate OSF capabilities between DES M&S System Integration and Engineering (DES-I) and M&S Production (DES-P) functional areas in support of GTISS.


Maintain DES-I and DES-P management awareness of planning activities and issues related to GTISS development. Provide meeting summaries, reports on key activities and issues, and after-action reports.


Participate in staff meetings.


This position may have a 10-20% travel requirement. This position may require 10% night/weekend work.


Minimum Qualifications & Education Requirements

BS in Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Science from an accredited university and 8-10 years' experience.


Ability to collaborate in a team environment; strong ability to work independently and perform as part of a team both locally and remotely.


Strong written and verbal communication skills; data collection, documentation, and reporting on all the above responsibilities as required. Perform other IT duties as assigned to realize mission success.


Previous experience with the Missile Defense Agency or ballistic missile defense system.


Good understanding of Missile Defense System elements or components or equivalent system of system environments.


Data collection, documentation, and reporting on all responsibilities as required. Perform other duties as assigned to realize mission success.


Experience with missile defense systems, modeling and simulation, and statistical analyst; system Test requirements for verification of new capabilities; scenario development support


Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance.


Physical Description

Employees in these positions will function in a general office/cubicle setting environment, laboratory/testing setting using standard office equipment and various electronic testing equipment, including a computer, telephone, printers, video equipment, computer software and testing equipment. Will interact in a general office setting environment with various personnel; participate in meetings and contribute to team success; deliver timely results and produce reports; receive and communicate information; may include telework. May function in a laboratory/testing environment using electronic testing equipment, computer software and complex systems. May move and test equipment of various weights. Laboratory environment may require use of protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to safety glasses and protective hearing and footwear. May be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization due to business demands; travel occasionally for assigned work.
