Technical Development Manager NVO - North America


to join our Novel Vegetable Oils (NVO) team. The position may be based out of the office in Houston, TX (Neste office) or Hutchinson, MN (Agritrading office) or Rockdale, IL (Mahoney office) in a hybrid home/office environment.


Our NVO team is responsible for the definition and implementation of the strategy and roadmap to reach Neste’s ambitious long-term target regarding Novel Vegetable Oils.


The Technical Development Manager contributes to NVO strategy implementation from technology perspective and drives forward selected technical development projects related to NVO. He/she will need to evaluate the potential of various novel vegetable oils by establishing individual development initiatives, identifying the most promising concepts and projects for Neste and providing insight and roadmap to pathway needs for each concept.


The role will manage several technical development projects from early evaluation to implementation. The Technical Development Manager has solid technical experience enabling him/her to evaluate feasibility and robustness of new NVO opportunities. The Technical Development Manager will need to collaborate with the supply development manager to utilize Neste’s existing network and build additional partnerships with relevant technology development partners, namely ag companies, research institutes and universities related to new vegetable oil development. In order to succeed in the role, the Technical Development Manager needs to build an in-depth understanding of NVO technologies and their sustainability aspects.

Your main responsibilities in creating a sustainable future are to

  • Contribute to NVO implementation.
  • Lead NVO technology developments from early evaluation to implementation.
  • Actively manage technical development projects and identify new opportunities.
  • Identify key partnerships for technology development for testing and selecting the best crops, farming systems and sustainability principles.
  • Build and develop selected technology partnerships.
  • Contribute to R&D work in the region
  • Steer and manage the testing program though different business models either own development or with strategic partners
  • Coordinate the pathways for all Novel Vegetable Oils submissions and modeling and data management from LCA and certifications emissions at cultivation level.

The best combination to succeed in this role


Professional skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture, environment or sustainability related field (masters preferred).
  • Minimum 7+ years’ proven experience in R&D or technical development in agricultural/environmental business. Long Experience in the US is a must, and Canada/Mexico is a merit.
  • Technical expertise combined with data management and regulatory work.
  • Understanding of Sustainable agriculture principles and good agricultural practices.
  • Proven track record in driving technical developments to successful implementation.
  • Experience with regulatory pathways in the US.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills & interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail, ability to manage complexity & to develop alternative routes and solutions.
  • Team player with ability and willingness to “roll up sleeves” once needed.
  • Flexibility and adaptation into changing circumstances.
  • Visible passion and interest towards renewable raw material markets, sourcing practices and Renewables as business area
