THIS IS A LONG TERM SUB POSITION that is expected to start on 3/10/2023 and end on 6/22/23. Please note, all substitute teachers are hired as per diem subs, even when placed in long term assignments. ***This school has been designated as a Level 4 School by the State of Massachusetts. This designation allows districts to utilize the new tools granted in the landmark education reform law that was passed in 2010 to provide additional services for these schools. Some of these tools will allow for extended time and extra compensation where needed. Additional responsibilities such as extended day and/or year, schedules, and duties are subject to collective bargaining and turnaround plan.

Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional HEALTH ASSISTING/VOCATIONAL TECH TEACHER- Health Assisting who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners and leaders.

English High School is seeking an expert professional to team-teach in the Chapter 74 approved Health Assisting Program, the chosen individual will work to assure students are instructed in the theory, knowledge and competencies as outlined in the Massachusetts Department of Education Frameworks. Through a blend of academic and technical instruction, applied learning, and work site experience, this instructor will assist our students to develop the career skills and knowledge to ensure success in the chosen career and post-secondary education.

REPORTS TO: Principal/Headmaster or Designee

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Health Assisting Teacher will be comfortable using classroom and lab instruction to support students to gain proficiency in the Health Assisting Vocational Frameworks including safety and all industry-related standards. The Program will incorporate interdisciplinary and project-based learning and must have a Community Based/Clinical work based learning including:
  • Provide an interdisciplinary course of study that integrates reading, writing, analytical skills development in alignment with state curricular frameworks for core content area.
  • Implement district learning goals and objectives using the school’s Instructional Whiteboard Configuration (IWBC)
  • Create developmentally appropriate student-centered environment that establishes positive student behavioral expectations conducive to all learners needs through structured routines, and positive behavioral interventions.
  • Establish classroom structure that values positive relationships through intentional implementation of appropriate curriculum
  • Plan and organize field trips
  • Administer benchmarks in accordance with the schools’ and district’s guidelines
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Creatively provide an interdisciplinary course of study that incorporates state curricular frameworks
  • Deliver content through discrete instruction, demonstration, practice, and projects
  • Instruct students in safety and all industry related curriculum materials
  • Instruct students in all aspects of the industry
  • Maintain records as required by the school, district, or state
  • Build and maintain partnerships that assist in getting students into authentic learning experiences
  • Participate in team meetings /curriculum development/and professional development activities that support student achievement and program and school functioning
  • Share in administrative duties as determined by the Headmaster or designee
  • Perform other related duties as requested by Headmaster or designee

QUALIFICATIONS__REQUIRED:
  • Education: Hold a Bachelors degree or higher in Nursing
  • Hold a valid Massachusetts Vocational Tech Teaching License in Practical Nursing (9-14) or be eligible to obtain.
  • Hold an SEI endorsement or a dual certification in ESL by July 1, 2021.
  • Three years of recent (within the last seven years), full time employment experience directly related to nursing
  • Possession of current MA license as a registered nurse (RN)
  • Experience teaching and/or supervising CNA’s or Nursing Techs
  • Ability to keep class records and to write reports
  • Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Boston Public Schools as outlined above.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS__PREFERRED
  • Prior teaching experience
  • Experience working in an urban area
  • Experience in Acute Care and Long Term Care
  • Experience or familiarity with state vocational frameworks
  • Ability to manage and motivate groups of students Ability to establish a multi cultural atmosphere, which enhances individual growth and promotes a positive self-image.
  • CPR Instructor status
  • Background in wellness/fitness
  • Familiar with industry certifying options (First Aid, CPR, AED, CNA, etc)
  • OSHA 10 certification or willingness to be certified
