Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is a progressive member owned utility with a service area that spreads from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. REC serves over 165,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties.

OVERVIEW

The System Inspector performs ongoing Inspections of the Cooperative’s electrical system for safety and maintenance-related issues and reports them to the appropriate personnel, performs meter reading and related services on an accurate and timely basis in accordance with prescribed schedules to insure proper billing of all electric accounts.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Reads all assigned electric meters and enters data into electronic device.

- Performs visual patrol of the Cooperative’s electric facilities and maintains records of inspections as performed.

- Maintains electronic records of all potential problems, notifying appropriate Cooperative personnel daily.

- Calls office immediately, by radio or cell phone, to report any emergency.

- Searches for and records new electric connections that may not be in the computer system.

- Must possess basic computer skills, to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including, but not limited to: Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint as required by job responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED (General Equivalency Diploma) required. Two (2) years’ experience with meter reading systems and a strong general knowledge of REC geographic service areas is preferred. A good general knowledge of REC electric facilities is desired.

The ideal candidate must have the ability to learn REC's mapping system and know basic electricity. Must possess basic computer skills, to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including, but not limited to: Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint as required by job responsibilities.

Must maintain a valid Virginia Driver's License. Must be able to operate iPad and PC computer equipment. Must be able to read REC electronic maps. Must be able to execute supporting documents for meter reading and meter changes. Must be able to work and communicate well with customers.

Must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions. Job requires frequent exposure to traffic, dust, and all types of domestic animals. Overtime is required.
