MAIN FUNCTION:

Responsible for ensuring proper care and use of surgical instruments. Assists surgeon during surgical procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES:

c) Reports observed or suspected safety violations, hazards, and policy/procedure noncompliance to the Clinical Director or Charge Nurse

8. Duties

a) Assembles supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physicians’ preference cards

b) Follows principles of aseptic technique and prescribed operating/procedure room procedures

c) Adheres to aseptic technique when opening sterile packages and preparing for the procedure

d) Arranges instruments according to given procedure

e) Confirms that instruments and equipment work properly

f) Maintains availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays

g) Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and takes action according to policy

h) Correctly uses, cares for, cleans, and sterilizes instruments, supplies, and equipment per manufacturer’s instructions.

i) Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide appropriate availability and safety

j) Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the operating room for immediate access during procedure

k) Assists in storing and stocking supplies as directed

l) Maintains surgeons’ preference cards

m) Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician

QUALIFICATIONS:

2. Ability to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, and general public

3. Ability to make decisions and solve problems

REQUIREMENTS:

1. High School Diploma or GED

2. BLS Certification

3. Completion of surgical scrub technician course

4. Surgical Scrub Technician experience preferred, but not required
