Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector is seeking a Director, Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management. This position can be located at one of Space Sectors key locations (TBD) and will report directly to the Vice President of Global Supply Chain.

Responsibilities include developing strategies and leading the Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management team in the following areas:

  • Execution of a common framework and strategy for supplier performance management; drive alignment with supplier quality, programs, and engineering

  • Implements and manages an effective supplier performance management program that establishes Sector objectives; captures and monitors metrics to ensure supplier performance excellence and continuous improvement

  • Execute strategic category management for select categories that are common across the sector to leverage demand, improve purchasing power, provide long-term value and savings and drive a single voice of the customer

  • Negotiation of Sector level Supplier agreements for common products, services, and terms

  • Drive alignment to Corporate GSC priorities in the areas of Direct and Indirect category management and Supplier Relationship Management strategies to ensure greatest benefit to our Sector/Divisions

  • Assess and expand Vendor Managed Inventory as a strategic enabler for our Sector supply chain

  • Implement standardized capacity assessment process across Sector and work with divisions to align demand

  • Support Make/Buy strategy in partnership with Sector Strategy, Technology and Program Performance office to inform sourcing intelligence and alternative sourcing requirements

  • Implement processes/protocols for structured interfaces with strategic suppliers

  • In partnership with NGSP Divisions and Corporate GSC, coordinates strategic supplier interfaces and escalation protocol to clarify Sector priorities and drive collaboration for both the supplier and NGSP

  • Structures relationships with strategic suppliers that leverage Sector total spend and promotes broad recognition of supplier investments in NGSP

  • Partners with Division GSC Leaders to 1) understand program/Business unit strategies and plans 2) select, sustain, align, and improve the supply base through a formalized process of assessing capabilities and an exchange of business and technology roadmaps and 3) understands risk in the supply base and provides the infrastructure to support corrective action when performance dips below thresholds

The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills to achieve sustainable top performance. He/she will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, and the ideal candidate will have demonstrated success collaborating and leading teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Finance or Accounting with 10+ years Supply Chain Management or related functions

  • Possess strong negotiation, critical thinking and problem solving skills

  • Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority

  • Well versed in FAR, DFARS, and overall government contracting regulatory environment

  • Effective communication and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated supplier negotiation experience

  • People management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated capability of supplier performance management with a track record of increased supplier performance based on strategy and actions

  • Technical knowledge/understanding of key products and platforms in Space Systems Sector

  • Strong understanding of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and how they are used to change and manage the business

This position reports to Dulles, VA, USA, however, you are able to work from any of the additional 5 locations listed above.



Salary Range: $175,000 USD - $303,800 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
