STATUS: Non-Exempt/ Full-Time

SCHEDULE: AM Shift - 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM

BASIC PURPOSE

The Youth Education Lead will be responsible for developing and scheduling after-school, summer camp, child watch and all youth programs at the Kroc Center. The Kroc Center will be a fully comprehensive community center and these areas will be available to the Youth Education Lead for programming and scheduling in cooperation with other programming.

Under the direction of the Family Enrichment Manager, this position will lead all aspects of the program development and supervision of programming for summer day camp and child watch programs, including seasonal activities. Under the direction of the Family Enrichment Manager, the Youth Education Lead will work together with local agencies in identifying programs, services, funding, and partners for children, youth, and teen programs and services. In addition, this position will be responsible for the summer camp program budget and the monitoring of this budget to include cost recovery goals. This position will be responsible for the inventory in this area to include ordering replacements for supplies.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meet regularly with the Family Enrichment Manager to discuss the shared facility resources, budget, issues, and goals towards operating a fiscally responsible division. Participate in the development and implementation of objectives, policies, and priorities for the Summer Camp program area.
  • Recruit, select, train, schedule, and evaluate the Summer Camp program.
  • Provide a program plan for Summer Camp staff to follow including supply lists, timeline, and scheduled spaces. Coordinate field trips, including selection of destinations.
  • Maintain prescribed risk management standards to include certification, in-service training, and accident/incident report tracking and a safe working environment.
  • Responsible for scheduling Kroc Center venues for Summer Camp and youth enrichment programs.
  • Plan, organize, and implement part-time staff trainings. Instruct Summer Camp staff to lead youth participants in recreation activities with enthusiasm according to training protocol and written lesson plans. Cultivate teamwork with staff and the facility.
  • Maintain accurate records regarding waivers, guardian, and staff information on all participants.
  • Oversee implementation of discipline procedures created for campers. Complete report to guardians to inform them of any camper injury, behavioral issues, disputes, etc. Facilitate any needed and/or ongoing communication with parents or guardians.
  • Plan and prepare supply orders for all program activities. Conduct regular inventory of all equipment and supplies. Arrange orders when necessary.
  • Responsible for quality assurance including pre and post participant questionnaires to access program successes and deficiencies.
  • Operate Kroc Center vehicles as required to provide participant.
  • This position has access to confidential and private It is essential that confidentiality and privacy be observed.
  • Provide direct program supervision and fill in as a leader when required.
  • Ensure compliance with The Salvation Army Child Safety Policies and Ensure all staff adheres to The Salvation Army Kroc Center and day camp policies and procedures.
  • Ability to gain understanding and effectively use The Salvation Army Kroc Center computerized Point of Sale computer program for membership, activity scheduling and other data base informational use.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Associates degree in Recreation, Education, Liberal Arts, or related field preferred. High School Diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum two years' experience programming for recreation of similar size and type to the Suisun City Kroc Center. Experience in non-profit organization preferred.
  • Minimum of two years prior experience supervising and managing recreational or early childhood staff.
  • Must be a person of high integrity, and willing to support and promote the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Leadership skills, problem solving capabilities, and the ability to maintain a positive attitude and professional manner while interacting with Kroc employees, guardians, guests, and the public.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to carry out multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Be self-motivated and self-directed with the ability and desire to take projects from beginning through completion.
  • Will be required to work flexible hours, weekends, and evenings.
  • Microsoft Office skills required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • First Aid, CPR, and AED If not current must be obtained within two months of employment. Instructor certification preferred.
  • Required to pass a background history.
  • Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Authorize The Salvation Army to add name to the CA DMV Pull Notice Program.
  • Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.
  • Ability to reach overhead.
  • Ability to operate telephone.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 for administrative positions.
  • Ability to operate a computer
  • Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools PC, Fax Machine, Telephone, Calculator, Copier, Printer.
